A tree doesn't choose between roots and branches.
It needs both.
The roots hold.
The branches reach.
One without the other,
And it falls.
You are the same.
Inside everyone,
There are two forces in conversation.
Today,
We're going to feel both of them.
Sit,
Feet flat on the floor,
Spine upright but not rigid,
Hands resting open.
Close your eyes.
Breathe in through your nose,
Deep and slow.
And out through your mouth,
Long and easy.
Again.
Breath in.
Breath out.
Feel the weight of your body,
The pull of the earth beneath you.
That pull,
That's always been there,
Holding you without asking anything in return.
Bring your attention to your body right now.
Notice where you feel solid,
Grounded,
Heavy,
Anchored.
That is the masculine within you,
Structure,
Stillness,
Presence.
Now notice where you feel movement,
The rise and fall of your chest,
The liveness in your breath,
The current underneath the stillness.
That is the feminine within you,
Flow,
Feeling,
Depth.
Which one feels more available to you right now?
And which one feels distant?
See,
Look at nature.
The ocean doesn't apologize for its depth.
The mountain doesn't apologize for its stillness.
The rain feeds the roots.
The roots hold the earth together.
Neither is more important.
Neither works alone.
Feminine.
Masculine.
Direction.
Stillness.
Structure.
Holding.
Presence.
Feminine.
Flow.
Feeling.
Depth.
Receiving.
Aliveness.
Most men have been taught to live almost entirely in one column.
To push,
To perform,
To hold it together,
And to distrust the other side.
What have you been taught to distrust in yourself?
Sensitivity.
Uncertainty.
Softness.
Need.
Those aren't weaknesses.
They're the other half of the system.
Take a breath.
Breath in.
As you inhale,
Feel yourself rooted.
Like the mountain.
Solid.
Immovable.
Breath out.
As you exhale,
Feel yourself flow.
Like the river.
Moving.
Alive.
Again.
Breath in.
Rooted.
Breath out.
Flowing.
What becomes possible when you stop choosing between them?
In your relationships.
In your work.
In the way you carry yourself.
One last breath.
Breath in.
Breath out.
The tree doesn't choose between roots and sky.
Neither do you have to.
Both forces live in you.
They always have.
When you're ready,
Open your eyes.
