For a lot of us.
Rest comes with a condition attached.
You can rest when the work is done,
When you've earned it,
When the list is finished,
When you've done enough to justify stopping.
The problem is,
The list is never finished.
So rest becomes something you're always almost allowed to have,
But never quite there yet.
Today we're going to unhook rest from productivity and just let you stop.
Let's give your body permission to actually stop for a moment.
Feet on the floor,
Hands resting easy.
Slow breath in through the nose,
Let it drop all the way down.
And out.
Long and complete.
Notice if there's any guilt or restlessness already present.
The pull toward doing something.
Checking something.
Justifying being here.
One more,
And slowly.
You don't need a reason to be here.
You don't need to have earned this.
You just need to be a human being.
And that's enough.
Think about the last time you tried to rest,
Properly rest,
And something in you wouldn't let it happen.
Maybe your mind kept running the list.
Maybe you felt lazy,
Soft.
Like you were wasting time.
Maybe the rest didn't actually feel like rest at all.
Where does that guilt or restlessness live in your body right now?
Just notice it,
Don't try to fix it.
That feeling has a history.
It didn't come from nowhere.
The belief that rest has to be earned wasn't born in you.
It was installed by a culture that measures people by their outlook.
By a household where busyness was the only acceptable state.
By the slow accumulation of messages that said,
Your worth is what you produce.
And so rest became suspicious.
Something that needed justifying.
Something that felt dangerously close to being nothing.
Where did you first learn that stopping wasn't okay?
That you had to keep moving to be enough?
Take your time.
And what would it mean for you right now if rest didn't have to be earned at all?
Here's what I want you to hold on to.
Rest isn't a reward for productivity,
It's a basic requirement for being human.
Your body needs it,
Your mind needs it,
Your ability to show up fully for everything that matters depends on it.
Learning to stop without earning it is one of the more quietly radical things you can do.
Start here.
One final breath in and out completely.
Feel the ground beneath you,
Steady,
Present,
Still.
You don't have to do anything after this.
You're allowed to just be for a moment longer.
Rest well.
You And remember this is deep work.
If you feel called,
Reach out.
I'd be honoured to witness your being and becoming.
You
