Reparenting is the process of learning how to meet your own needs as adults and to understand your thoughts, emotions and behaviours. Children’s healthy development is dependent on their intrinsic needs being met. When we are in a state of dependence, we rely on our parent figures and the family unit as a whole to provide us with physical, emotional, and spiritual nourishment. We deeply desire to be seen, heard, and authentically expressed (to simply just be us). When we experience our parent-figures engage in supportive behaviours, we learn that it’s safe to express our needs and reach out to other people for help. Most parent-figures never learned how to meet their own needs, let alone another person’s, passing on their own unresolved traumas and conditioned coping strategies. Even well-intentioned parent-figures don’t always give us what serves us. Meeting all of someone’s varied and unique needs all the time is almost impossible. (Dr Nicole LePera).

Welcome to today's meditation.

We are now going to focus on our breath.

Please close your eyes when you are ready and make sure that you're in a comfortable position.

Our thoughts are transient,

They will come and they will go.

Once we bring awareness to our thoughts,

They begin to dissolve.

Breathe in through your nose and out through your mouth during this meditation.

In today's meditation we are going to think about the process of reparenting.

This is the practice of relearning how to meet our physical,

Emotional and psychological needs.

As adults we are responsible for meeting our own needs and giving ourselves what we did not receive in childhood.

Breathe in slowly and deeply through your nose,

Exhale slowly and deeply through your mouth.

I want you to spend some time reflecting on the following question.

What do I need to do for myself today?

Eckhart Tolle describes awareness as the space between our thoughts.

Once we become more conscious and more aware,

We are less defined and less attached to our thoughts.

Breathe in slowly and deeply through your nose,

Exhale slowly and deeply through your mouth.

You can continue to meditate in your own time or you can bring your attention back to your body and when you are ready please open your eyes and come back into the room.
