Something just asked for your attention,
A sound,
A vibration,
A small interruption.
And the body may already be moving toward it,
And preparing,
The mind leaning forward,
The breath shifting before you even notice.
This happens quickly,
Almost automatically,
Because over time,
The system learns that these signals matter,
That they might require you,
That they might contain something you should not miss.
So if you feel that pull,
That immediate urge to check,
To respond,
To move toward it,
That does not mean you lack discipline,
It means your system has learned to respond fast,
But fast is not always necessary.
So before you follow that movement,
Pause here,
Just for a moment,
Let the breath come in without reacting yet,
And let it leave without deciding anything yet.
You are allowed a small space between the signal and the response,
Not to resist,
Not to delay for no reason,
Just to remain with yourself for one breath longer.
Feel your hands before they reach,
Your shoulders before they tighten,
Your chest before it prepares.
The notification can wait a few seconds,
The world does not collapse if you arrive slightly more steady,
And from that steadiness,
You can still respond,
You can still check,
You can still continue,
But now you are not entering it from the first impulse,
You are entering it from a place that includes you.
So take one more breath here,
Before you move,
And let that be enough to change how you respond.
