Welcome to this forgiveness meditation.
The act of forgiveness is one of the most profound ways to release what no longer serves you and to release whatever is holding you back in life.
Let's begin.
Start by finding a comfortable position either seated or lying down.
Gently close your eyes and take a moment to settle in.
Consciously relax your body and try to let go of the day thus far.
Try to let go of any anticipation or expectations for tomorrow.
Start by taking a deep breath in,
Feeling the air expand within you and exhale slowly,
Releasing any tension in the body or busyness in the mind.
Again,
Inhale deeply and as you exhale,
Imagine letting go of anything weighing you down.
With each breath you are softening and becoming more present in this moment.
Now allow your breathing to settle into a natural rhythm,
Calm and steady.
Notice the breath moving in and out of your body with ease,
Like waves moving in and out.
No force,
No resistance,
Just flow.
Don't try to change the breath in any way.
It is perfect just the way it is.
Forgiveness is not about excusing the past,
It is about freeing yourself in the present.
Imagine standing at the edge of a beautiful river.
This river represents the flow of life,
Always moving,
Always renewing.
Now bring to mind something you've been holding on to,
A crutch,
A regret,
Resentment.
It might be towards someone else or even towards yourself.
Be honest to yourself.
As you hold this in your awareness,
Notice how it feels in your body.
Where do you sense it?
Maybe as a heaviness in the chest,
A tightness in the stomach or a tension in the shoulders.
Investigate this feeling with a childlike curiosity.
With every exhale,
Allow yourself to soften a bit more deeply into this feeling.
Allow it to simply be there,
Without judgment.
Be open and acceptant of whatever it is that you feel.
Now picture this burden as a small stone in your hand.
Feel its weight,
Its roughness.
See its shape and color.
You have been carrying it for so long but you don't have to anymore.
Imagine yourself kneeling by the river,
An endless stream of energy and renewal.
When you're ready,
Gently release the stone into the water.
Watch as it sinks,
Disappearing into the depths,
No longer yours to carry.
Repeat this process as many times as you feel is needed.
Take your time.
Now that all stones,
All burdens are released,
Feel the lightness in your body.
A weight has been lifted.
Feel the space you have created.
Now visualize the river continuing its path.
Flowing effortlessly.
And with it,
Your heart opens just a little bit more.
You are no longer resisting life.
You are moving with it.
Forgiveness is not a single act.
It is a way of being.
A daily choice to release what no longer serves you and to trust the flow of life.
Slowly begin to deepen your breath again.
Become aware of the sounds in your surroundings.
Wiggle your fingers and toes.
And when you're ready,
Open your eyes.
See if you can carry this sense of lightness with you today.
Thank you for practicing today and enjoy the rest of your day.
