Welcome to your practice.
We'll begin today by finding a comfortable seated position.
Begin to notice the spine lengthening gently,
As though the crown is slightly suspended.
Rest your hands wherever they feel natural.
Flutter the eyes closed and begin to take a slow inhale through the nose and a soft exhale out.
Again,
Inhaling slowly through the nose and exhaling,
Releasing the jaw and the tongue from the roof of the mouth.
Now bring awareness to the base of the spine.
We begin Appajappa,
Effortless breath awareness along the spine.
As you inhale,
Feel the breath traveling upward from the base of the spine to the crown of the head.
As you exhale,
Allow the awareness to descend from the crown back to the base.
No forcing here,
Just attention riding the breath.
Let's take three rounds together.
Starting at the base of your spine,
Inhale from the base all the way up to the crown.
Exhale from the crown all the way down to the base.
Again,
Inhale,
Rising upward.
Exhale,
Descending downward.
Last round.
Inhale,
Ascending awareness up the ladder of your spine.
Exhale,
A soft,
Slow return to the base of your spine.
Pause your breathing technique here.
Before we continue,
I want to introduce the mantra that we'll be working with,
Ananda Maya Moksha.
Ananda is the quiet bliss that exists beneath circumstances.
Maya is the layer of experience,
The stories and identities that we move through.
And Moksha is liberation,
A gentle release into what is true.
Together,
It reminds us that bliss is revealed when we soften what we are holding.
Now,
Imagine the spine as a white quartz mountain.
What do you notice?
Notice the brilliance,
The luminosity and the clear energy of the white quartz mountain.
The base rooted deep into the earth,
The crown touching light.
We will climb this mountain with breath.
Begin to inhale for a slow count of five,
Climbing the ladder of the spine.
For one,
Two,
Three,
Four,
Five,
Reaching the summit.
At the top,
Breathe stillness.
And now exhale slowly,
Chanting internally or softly aloud,
Ananda Maya Moksha.
As you exhale,
Feel yourself dissolving,
Like light cascading down the white quartz surface.
Again,
Inhale for five,
Climbing the mountain.
One,
Two,
Three,
Four,
Five.
Pause at the summit and exhale Ananda Maya Moksha.
Let the sound wash down the spine,
Melting effort,
Identity and tension.
One more round.
Inhale for five,
Rising steady and clear.
Pause.
Exhale Ananda Maya Moksha,
Dissolving downward into spacious awareness.
Now release the counting.
Sit at the summit of the mountain.
What do you notice?
Observe the bright,
Clear,
Effortless expansion.
Notice Ananda,
The quiet bliss beneath conditions.
Maya,
The movement across the surface.
And Moksha,
The release.
Rest here.
Slowly begin to bring your awareness back to your gentle breathing.
Notice the point of contact where your body meets the earth.
And a sense of spaciousness around the summit,
The crown of your head.
Slowly return to your center.
