The whistle breath is a fast and easy way to relax the body and calm the mind. Did you know when you are whistling it is very difficult for your mind to think of other things? I find this breath so helpful when i have had a busy day and very 'in my head'. Whistling also activates the vagus verve, telling your system everything is OK.

Hello everyone,

This is Kavalia Shanti.

I'm glad you're joining me today because we're going to practice one of my favorite breath techniques,

Which is the whistle breath.

So wherever you are,

Find a nice comfortable position where your spine is long,

Shoulders are relaxed,

And just start to bring attention to your breath.

Notice breathing in,

Notice breathing out,

With no need to control the breath at this point.

Simply be aware of the in-breath and aware of the out-breath.

As you're ready,

We're going to take the lips and put them into like a puckered position,

As though you're going to whistle.

However,

This whistle breath is actually on the inhale.

So we're going to have our puckered lips and whistle on the inhale,

And then when you're ready to exhale,

You'll exhale through the nose.

And then inhale through the puckered lips,

Whistling in,

And exhale through the nose.

And that's our breath.

Whistling in,

And exhale through the nose.

So there's no need to take a longer in-breath than you normally would.

Just simply puckering the lips so the breath comes in like a whistle,

And then once your lungs are full,

You'll exhale through the nose.

And that's our breath.

So continuing just like that,

Whistling your in-breath,

Exhaling through the nose.

So this breath,

Like I said,

Is very helpful to quiet the mind because when we're whistling,

It's very difficult,

If not impossible,

To be thinking of anything else.

So when you find that your mind is getting a bit cluttered,

This is a fantastic breath to help everything just kind of settle down.

Breathing in through the puckered lips,

And out through the nose.

And at the end of your next exhale through the nose,

Take a deep inhale,

And then exhale,

Sigh it out.

I encourage you to weave this breath into your day as much as you're able,

Just to see how it can kind of shift the way and the speed at which your thoughts are moving.
