Wild horses.
These planet meditations are designed for you to sit with the beautiful elements and life in all its glorious creation on our earth as you quiet yourself to be here right now.
They can be used to return you to your sense of oneness with the whole planet or you could simply enjoy them and relax.
I invite you to softly close your eyes,
Beginning to feel your breath flowing in and out of your lungs,
Taking a few moments here.
Becoming aware of the softness of your breath,
Feeling it entering and leaving your whole body as you simply sit or lie or perhaps stand quietly.
Maybe this is the first time today you find yourself here,
Remembering to stop and pause and begin to notice your breath,
Your own physical body sensations,
Your own body,
Ear,
Resting with whatever you notice.
And if you can't feel anything at all,
Just noticing that.
And now breathing gently in your own natural rhythm,
Coming back to this breath and the next and this one.
And gently noticing where your mind travels and then with each breath coming back to the flow of air in and out of your body.
As our mind wanders,
Our body awaits with compassion for us to return,
So maybe smiling gently now as you allow your mind and body to come together right now with your breath,
Breathing smoothly and maybe noticing the sounds you can hear right now.
Maybe you can hear your breath,
Or the movements of your body,
Or a sound in the room where you rest,
Or outside,
Or my voice on this recording.
Whatever your ears hear,
Just noticing,
Following the sound,
Letting it come and then perhaps leave again.
Now if you wish,
Bringing your attention back to your breath and maybe noticing the movements in your body as it fills and nourishes itself with air.
Perhaps noticing any physical sensations in your body and bringing your awareness as you slowly scan down through your body now,
Breathing with ease as you do so.
Noticing the air on your face,
On your cheeks,
Maybe it's warm or cool and down through your neck to your shoulders,
Arms,
Your hands,
Noticing the position of your hands as you rest here now.
And back up your arms and your chest,
Bringing your attention to the front of your body and to the back of your body,
Spreading out between your shoulder blades.
And now down to your hips and into your legs,
Past your knees,
Your ankles and down to your feet,
Becoming aware of the feeling of the ground beneath your feet,
Feeling their contact.
Maybe you can even notice your toes,
Whether they're touching or apart,
Bringing your full awareness to the whole of your body now,
Back up to the whole of your body and resting here,
Breathing.
Giving yourself this time with gratitude and compassion,
Safely supported by the surface beneath you,
Breathing naturally and feeling the joy perhaps of being here right now.
And now bringing into your mind's eye the image of a herd of wild horses,
Perhaps it's a group of feral horses you've seen in a film or perhaps it's a herd you know.
Becoming aware of them in your mind's eye and maybe noticing where they are,
Maybe it's a vast open place of rock and wind or maybe it's a softer landscape of grass and wool.
Seeing your herd now,
However they are and whatever their surroundings,
What colour are your horses?
Are they different colours or mostly the same?
Maybe their manes are long and flowing or maybe they're short and thick,
Breathing here now,
Embraced and held by the surface on which you rest and being with the horses and their habitat.
In your mind's eye,
Focusing on one horse now,
Maybe it's a small mare grazing on the sparse grass as she keeps an eye on her foal or maybe it's the foal scampering on the hard ground,
Hooves tapping in his own natural world.
Or maybe your horse is the stallion,
Alert and proud,
Guarding his group,
Aware of all he surveys,
Ears twitching,
Tail swishing,
Nostrils flaring with each new scent.
Just lying here now,
Breathing and seeing the image in your mind of your horse,
Seeing its eyes now,
Wise and alert,
Knowing it lives from day to day,
Taking care of its needs,
Protecting its young,
Fighting and loving,
Living its life as it must,
Scenting the wind,
Hearing the sounds and now seeing the calm wisdom in those eyes,
Feeling the strength of its strong body as it breathes in its dusty air,
Free,
At peace,
Living in each moment as it can.
And now perhaps you might see yourself as your wild horse,
Your horse of the prairie or hill,
With the changes of the weather,
The changes of the light,
The roaming of your herds,
Nothing permanent and yet all just the same.
Living and loving,
Fighting and running,
Alive,
Present,
Strong and wise,
Living your life with vigour and seeing that your horse and you share this earth,
This air.
And feeling yourself breathing here now in your own strong body,
Feeling the pressure of your heels and calves and back on the floor or your feet planted firmly on the ground as you sit,
Beginning to notice again the flow of your breath,
The sound of your breath and other sounds around you,
Breathing here in your own ebb and flow.
And when you hear the chime,
Slowly opening your eyes,
Bringing your attention into your fingers and your toes,
Moving them perhaps,
Taking a stretch that feels right for you.
May the strength and courage of the wild horses be with you in the coming week.
