Snake and Sun.
These planet meditations are designed for you to sit with the beautiful elements and life in all its glorious creation on our earth as you quiet yourself to be here right now.

So taking a couple of full breaths making yourself comfortable.
Sitting or lying,
Feet on the floor,
I invite you to softly close your eyes and begin to be aware of your breath flowing in and out of your lungs.
Take a few moments here becoming aware of the softness of your breath.
Feeling it entering and leaving your whole body as you simply sit or lie.
I'm beginning now to notice any sensations you can feel in your body.
Beginning to notice how it feels for you in this moment.
What physical sensations might you notice in your body right here,
Right now?
Bringing your attention to your body and gently scanning down as you breathe from your head,
Neck,
Shoulders,
Chest,
Back,
Tummy,
Hips,
Buttocks,
Thighs,
Calves and finally feeling into your feet,
Noticing the sensations in your feet.
Perhaps your toes are touching or maybe they're apart.
Whatever you notice just becoming aware of these sensations with a sense of gentle curiosity,
Nothing to do about them.
Bringing your focus into your body and into any sensations you may feel.
Perhaps you can sense some tingling or maybe numbness.
Perhaps there's a sense of tightness.
Just breathing in and out and allowing all you find to just be.
Bringing a kind curiosity to all you might feel and maybe you can't feel much at all and that's fine too.
Just becoming aware of what's going on for you right now.
Sensing where your body makes contact with the surface supporting you.
Perhaps the soles of your feet on the floor or your calves pressing against the chair or the floor or your shoulder blades sinking into the floor,
The back of the chair,
Whatever you sense just noticing and letting be.
And now bringing your awareness up through your body,
Up and into your lungs.
Noticing the feeling of the air entering and leaving your lungs.
Breathing in and out,
Perhaps noticing the movement of your body as it fills with air and the movement as the air leaves again.
Maybe you can even notice the pause.
The pause on the in-breath just before you let the air go and the pause on the out-breath before you draw new fresh air in.
Simply bringing awareness to your breath and your own natural ebb and flow.
Maybe noticing that your body knows what to do in every moment and with each breath.
Now bringing your awareness to the sensation of your breath on your face.
Maybe noticing the sensations on your cheeks or just below your nose or over your chin as you breathe in and as you breathe out.
What's the temperature of the air like on your face?
Is it warm or cool?
Maybe noticing any difference when you let the air go and when you take in a breath.
Is it cooler when you breathe in perhaps and warmer when you breathe out?
However it is for you right now just noticing with kind curiosity and nothing to do or change,
Nothing to decide.
Just lying here supported by the ground or chair,
Breathing naturally and noticing what's happening for you in this moment.
And now bringing your awareness to any thoughts which may be arising.
They'll come so let them arrive and leave again as you rest here gently returning your attention to your breath,
To breathing into your body.
And now bringing into your mind the image of a snake.
Maybe it's one you've seen or know or perhaps it's a snake of your imagination.
Focusing on its size.
Is it long or short?
Maybe it's a tiny snake or a huge one.
However your snake is just seeing it now becoming aware of its colors.
What are the colors of your snake?
Is it subtle blending into its habitat or is it bright and painted by nature?
Noticing the patterns on your snake now.
Perhaps your snake's moving or very still and as you lie or sit here safely supported by the surface on which you rest.
Bringing your full awareness to your snake to its head now.
Perhaps its eyes are open or closed and noticing your thoughts as you see your snake.
As if for the first time perhaps your thoughts are bringing you sensations and noticing these now as you keep the image of your large or small colorful or softly shaded snake into your mind.
And seeing how still your snake is when it rests and knowing that all creatures on our beautiful planet may create different responses in each of us.
And being with your own snake now and noticing how it looks at you perhaps just as you look at it.
And realizing that you and the snake share this planet and you both breathe the same air.
And the curiosity you may feel as you create your beautiful snake image is the same curiosity it feels as it stares back at you.
And feeling a sense of unity now and knowing the life in the snake and the life in you are the same life.
And as you bring your focus to the skies above your snake.
Seeing how brightly the Sun shines and the heat of the Sun warming the smooth skin of your snake warms your own skin.
You and the snake sharing the same Sun and the same air.
And now becoming aware that even as your snake slips quietly away from you the Sun remains shining down upon you as you breathe quietly and on all the life in the ground around you along with your snake.
Curious life,
Gentle life,
Vibrant life.
The Sun will shine down on all creatures hour after hour,
Day after day,
Month after month,
Year after year.
And if you can see yourself as the shining globe of the Sun now,
Warmth,
Energy,
Life-giving,
Full of compassion to pour out on all you see.
Just shining,
Shining,
Smiling and letting your fire burn away shining steadily,
Compassionate,
Hour after hour,
Day after day,
Month on month,
Year on year.
Steady,
Infinite.
And so breathing here now and becoming aware of the physical sensations in your body once more.
Noticing the contact of your body against the surface supporting you and the gentle pressure where you sit or lie and becoming aware of any tingling or numbness or any physical sensations in your body.
Maybe letting any thoughts that are bubbling to the surface just pass through and bringing your full awareness back to the inflow and outflow of your breath,
To the steadiness of your breathing.
And now to the sounds in your surroundings.
Noticing any sounds you can hear for a moment.
And when you hear the bell,
Wriggling your toes,
Moving your fingers,
Maybe taking a stretch that feels right for you and opening your eyes.
May the stillness of the snake and the generous warmth of the Sun be with you this week.
