Welcome to Somatic Signal,
I'm Jeremy.
A neurophysiologist.
If you're lying in bed trying to force yourself to sleep,
Your brain.
And perceives that effort as stress.
We don't force sleep here.
We change the underlying signal.
This under five minute reset uses targeted hardware inputs to lower your heart rate and shift your central nervous system into a parasympathetic down regulation.
Let's calibrate.
Find yourself however you are.
Lying on your back is nice.
Arms resting loosely at your sides.
And you might close your eyes.
You don't need to strain them shut.
See if you can let your eye muscles completely soften.
As if your eyes are floating backwards.
You can check in on your jaw.
This is the primary exit point for nervous system tension.
You might see unclenching your teeth,
Dropping your jaw slightly.
Maybe letting your tongue fall away from the roof of your mouth.
And just notice any release in your face.
Moving to your feet,
You might squeeze your toes gently for three seconds.
And then completely let them go.
Let your ankles roll open.
Checking on your muscles.
We're moving towards embraced.
Maybe even completely unbraced here.
Now we apply the biological break to your heart rate.
Inhale slowly through your nose for a four count.
And exhale softly through your nose for an eight count.
Inhale.
One,
Two,
Three,
Four.
And exhale.
Why is this long?
Finding your pace.
When you reach eight,
Take a pause and inhale again,
Counting to four.
When you arrive,
Pausing and exhaling for eight.
You see,
Prolonging your exhale directly stimulates the vagus nerve.
And signaling your brainstem that it is safe to release consciousness.
It's safe to go to sleep.
Your system is now starting to down regularly.
You can allow your breathing to return to natural if it hasn't.
Just notice the rhythm.
