Hello everybody,
Today we're going to talk about anger.
There are a lot of different aspects to anger.
You can see anger as fire,
Your teacher,
Or even a transformation.
I want you to picture a volcano,
I'm sure you can.
Beneath the surface pressure builds and builds quietly until suddenly fire erupts.
Anger is like that volcano,
It can destroy but in the same breath it can also create new ground.
What if anger isn't something to fear,
But a spiritual teacher simply waiting to be understood.
Think about that.
When was the last time that you felt anger as more than just mere frustration?
Now we're going to dive into the symbolism of anger.
Across esoteric traditions,
Anger is linked to the element of fire.
Fire burns,
But while it burns fire also purifies.
It clears away,
Literally clears away,
Because it burns it away.
What no longer serves us.
Think of lightning,
Sudden,
Fierce,
But also incredibly illuminating.
Think of Mars,
The god of war,
Embodying raw anger,
But he also embodies courage and protection.
Now we can think of dragons,
Fiery beings that symbolize untamed power.
To master the dragon is literally to master ourselves.
I've got a question for you.
If anger is fire,
Do you see it as destructive or do you see it as transformative?
Now we're going to chat a bit about anger in spiritual traditions.
In Buddhism,
Anger is one of the three poisons that cloud the mind.
Yet,
When we meet it with mindfulness,
It can dissolve into compassion.
In Hinduism,
Shiva's dance of destruction shows anger as divine energy,
Clearing the old way to make space for renewal.
Indigenous wisdom often sees anger as imbalance in spirit or community,
Calling for ritual healing.
And in Christian mysticism,
Righteous anger is a force that defends truth and justice.
Which of these traditions resonates most with you and how you experienced anger?
Practices to transmute anger.
Spiritual traditions don't tell us to suppress anger,
They teach us to transmute it.
Brushwork,
Cooling breaths,
Calm,
Fiery energy with visualization.
You can imagine anger as a flame transforming into light with chanting,
Sacred sound,
Dissolves,
Turbulence.
And now in alchemy,
Just as alchemy turned lead into gold,
We can turn the lead of anger into the gold of wisdom,
Literally.
A metaphor.
What practice would you try of the ones that we've just discussed above,
The next time you feel anger rising?
Now to end off,
I've got a paradox for you.
Anger is both poison and medicine.
It destroys illusions,
But can also awaken the truth.
The next time you feel anger,
Don't just push it away,
Ask yourself,
What is this fire trying to teach me?
What is this fire trying to teach me?
Thank you so much for listening.
Enjoy the rest of your day.
Namaste.
