There are many things in life that contribute to anxiety: dis-embodiment from trauma, over-analyzing things, and fear of the future, to name a few. This brief meditation leads participants through a process of becoming fully present in the body so that they can become more consciously aware of themselves. Many people have a tendency to project their consciousness into the future, rather than being present-focused. Participants are also led through a process of bringing themselves back into present awareness.

Transcript

Take a moment to settle and get comfortable.

Bringing all of your awareness and focus to the breath,

As though nothing else exists except for the breath.

Following the gentle flow in and out.

As you give the body permission to relax and let go,

Shoulders dropping,

Jaw becoming slack,

Hips opening,

Allowing the chair to take the full weight of the body,

Giving the mind permission to unwind.

You might imagine that you could put the intellectual mind on pause or dim it just like we dim the lights when we leave a room.

Reminding yourself there's absolutely nothing outside of yourself that requires your attention for the present time.

There's nothing to think about,

Nothing to analyze,

Nothing to plan.

Bringing all of your focus and awareness to the breath.

And if ever you find your mind wandering,

Simply draw yourself back to the present moment,

Just as you would a young child who wandered off,

Letting go of all judgment,

Reminding yourself that it's simply part of the process,

And continuing on.

Continuing to focus on the breath,

The gentle flow in and out.

And taking a few moments to call yourself into the body,

Fully into the body so that you have full presence from the top of the head right down to the soles of your feet and your fingertips.

So often in life we've had traumatic experiences.

We spend a lot of our time thinking and analyzing that we're not fully present in the body,

Which causes a great deal of anxiety.

And so imagine the body like a garment,

A suit of clothes for your soul and your spirit.

And you're calling yourself in,

Using your will,

Your attention,

To come fully into the body in the way that you were created to be in the body,

Feeling ever-greater presence,

Breathing through any resistance or tension you might experience,

Reminding yourself,

I am safe in the body,

Reminding yourself,

I am secure in the body,

Reminding yourself,

I am protected.

I have absolutely nothing to fear by being in the body,

Fully present in this body here now.

Notice how it feels to be ever more present in the body as you continue to focus on the breath,

Drawing yourself fully in so that you might be present here now.

There is absolutely nothing outside of yourself that requires your attention as you continue to focus on the breath,

As you become ever more present in the body,

Consciously taking a few moments to feel your connection with the earth below,

Feeling your feet on the floor,

On the earth,

Connecting with the earth below just as you were designed to be,

Continuing to focus on the breath as you continue to let go,

Feeling all the worries melting away.

And now turning an eye towards the future,

We often project our energy,

Our consciousness out into the future,

Spreading ourselves out like a cloud,

Diffused through space and time,

Rather than concentrated like a laser beam in the present moment.

And so imagine taking everything that causes you any fear,

Worry,

Concern,

Anxiety,

Everything that's causing you any sleeplessness and placing it in a box,

Regardless of whether it's related to family,

Friends,

Health,

Finances,

Career,

Fear of the unknown,

Fear of the future,

Placing it all in a box as you see and feel and hear yourself standing in your light,

In your personal power and taking all of your power,

All of your consciousness,

All of your light back,

Calling it out of the future into the present moment.

See,

Feel,

Hear yourself calling it back,

Your energy returning,

Your consciousness becoming centered in the present,

Here,

Now.

Remind yourself once again,

I am safe.

I am.

I am secure.

I am.

I am protected.

I am.

Feel yourself fully present in the body,

Present here,

Now,

Ready to continue with your day to reenter into the outer world.

And when you feel ready,

Open your eyes.
