Hello,
I'm Katie.
Welcome to this talk.
So today I wanted to chat a little bit about affirmations,
It's something we hear a lot as well,
You know,
All these ways to to do your affirmations and all of that.
And,
You know,
For me affirmations just I don't know,
I haven't really felt very real or genuine for me.
I believe in the power of positive thinking,
Of course,
And manifestation.
But I don't know,
When I'd work with affirmations,
It just didn't kind of land.
It felt like I was trying to force something to happen rather than kind of sensing into the possibility.
And I have a lot of clients that will,
You know,
Come,
Come to me and they're like,
Yeah,
I'm doing all my affirmations,
Saying them every day,
Writing them down,
Doing the collages and all that stuff.
But,
You know,
They're like,
It's just not working.
And that,
I feel like that's unfortunate because then they kind of like,
You know,
It's a little deflating and,
You know,
It just kind of,
It's just don't feel so great.
But a while back I heard of this term called affirmations.
As silly as it might sound,
I heard of this from another mindfulness teacher and somatic practitioner named Dawn Mauricio.
She's awesome.
I think she got this term from somebody else.
I can't find or remember the name,
So my apologies to miscredit or anything.
Anyways,
She says that informations are more about us sensing into a possibility and actually working with that embodiment piece and noticing what comes up.
So for instance,
An affirmation might be like,
I am successful.
I am deserving of love.
I am X,
Y,
Z,
All the multitude of things that we try to affirm.
But an information puts that more in a question form.
If I were successful.
If I were,
You know.
Had a loving relationship if I were able to do that thing.
And it seems like when,
At least for me and for some of my clients,
It seems like when we are able to kind of go in just to a question of asking what if.
You know,
It's a different process.
It's not trying to force some reality that's you know,
In your head,
It starts to become a felt experience,
Like I've kind of talked about in the embodiment video.
Becomes a felted experience.
You get to be curious and kind of wonder,
And as you're curious and you're wondering,
You might notice some sensations.
You might notice like,
Oh,
There's a little bit more room.
There's a little bit of space.
It just feels more natural to kind of wonder if.
Think about the possibility,
Get curious about the possibility and how that lands,
What that feels like.
Instead of forcing some idolized state.
However you say it.
Anyways,
I just wanted to share that for you.
I'm not trying to discredit or disparage affirmation work.
I think,
Once again,
There's a lot of beauty in that.
Great for cognitive reframing.
But when we get into the world of somatics and the nervous system and all of that kind of stuff,
It's a different ballgame.
It's a different language.
We're trying to get into the felt sensations of these things.
And then I do believe to get a little woo-woo,
We kind of start to vibrate with that possibility.
Maybe that expands and then maybe that does attract what it is that we're wanting or desiring or needing in our lives.
So just a little something to play with,
If formations.
I don't see it out there a lot,
But it's starting to kind of get some buzz to it.
So you're welcome to play with that and explore that however you would like.
And again,
It all starts with a question.
What if?
X y z.
What if?
What might that feel like?
Have fun.
Enjoy that practice.
