Hey,
Friend.
Welcome back to the Grounded Sleep Podcast.
I'm David and I'm going to be your guide tonight into getting really calm,
Really relaxed sleep.
So go ahead,
Get into bed.
Make sure you brush your teeth.
Maybe send your last message,
Your last I'm angry at you message.
Put down any of that victim energy.
Why did things turn out the way they did?
Rare.
And let's just unwind from the day as we go to sleep.
And perhaps you can even put down the idea that the day was supposed to go better than it did or perfectly.
Perhaps you can just put down any expectation that you had of the day.
Notice that it's the expectations that create the stress.
And take a few slow deep breaths.
Fill your belly in.
Tap your shoulders away from your ears.
And the palms of your hands and your jaw,
Your eyebrows,
Your temples,
Your forehead.
Sleep is really the movement from being conscious to being unconscious.
Which is funny because meditation is a movement from being unconscious to conscious.
But as we go to sleep,
We're going unconscious in a conscious way.
With intention,
With clarity,
And with ease.
I've had the privilege of living in places like the Himalayas and Bali and Hawaii.
And I'm like,
Thanks for making me jealous before sleep,
David.
And I've meditated in all of these places and met many beautiful spiritual teachers.
And in every place I've been,
No matter how high up in the Himalayas or how far out in the Pacific Ocean,
Every single night I had to go to sleep.
And every meditation teacher,
Every spiritual teacher I met also had to go to sleep.
Every philosopher,
Every CEO,
Every mother,
Every store clerk,
Every artist,
Every explorer,
Everyone I've ever met.
On every continent I've ever lived,
Everyone has had to go to sleep.
And in that sense,
We're all equal.
See if you can let go of any expectation on how you're supposed to sleep.
When we go to sleep,
We're really letting ourselves go deep into the unknown,
Deep into the ocean of unconsciousness.
Perhaps there's an ocean of unconscious awareness that we're all connected to,
A collective dream.
And you go back there every night when you fall asleep.
So on one level you go unconscious,
But your dream body on another level wakes up.
So deep in your dreams tonight,
If you find yourself aware in another dimension,
Playing with friends,
Exploring,
Learning,
Healing,
That's wonderful.
And if you have a deep,
Peaceful sleep without any dreams and you just purely rest,
That's wonderful too.
Relax your feet and your ankles.
Relax your shins and your calves up to your knees.
Relax your hamstrings and your quads all the way up to your waist.
Relax your stomach.
Relax your diaphragm.
Relax the entire trunk of your body all the way up through your chest,
Into your shoulders and down your arms,
Into your hands.
Relax your throat and your neck.
Relax your jaw,
Your ears,
Your nose,
Your eyes.
Relax the top of your head.
Notice your entire body is calm from your feet to the top of your head and out to your fingertips.
And notice that sleep is really an invitation into letting go.
And as you let go,
You're going to cross the threshold into that deep ocean of rest.
Give yourself the gift of beautiful rest tonight.
You may even notice the energy in your body beginning to rest.
And beginning to recharge.
You can feel your brain begin to rest.
Your mind begin to relax.
There's nothing to solve,
Fix,
Heal or do.
Sleep in sleep,
There's no responsibility.
And just like you might put your phone in sleep mode,
Put yourself in sleep mode,
No one can contact you.
Your body's nice and relaxed and you're drifting off into a deep sleep.
A calm sleep.
Have the best sleep of your life.
Let go and rest.
And as you let go,
You're going to cross the threshold into that deep ocean of rest.
Give yourself the gift of beautiful rest tonight.
