The Diaphragm
Welcome. In this short video, we’ll explore the diaphragm, the primary muscle of breathing. The way this muscle moves has a profound impact on how we breathe, how we feel, and how our nervous system functions. By learning to engage the diaphragm more naturally, we can breathe more efficiently, calm the body, and support greater balance and relaxation.

The diaphragm.
The diaphragm is our main respiratory muscle.
It is right beneath our lungs.
It basically separates the chest cavity and our upper abdomen,
So just at the very bottom of our rib cage.
Now,
This is a dome-shaped muscle that when we're inhaling,
It actually contracts and it pulls down,
Which creates more space in the chest cavity and basically lowers the pressure in our lungs and therefore the air can flow in.
Now,
When we are exhaling,
That muscle relaxes and once again creates a dome and therefore the air can come back out,
Essentially.
So many,
Many people actually don't use the full capacity of their lungs and don't use their diaphragm.
Now,
The more we use our diaphragm,
It can help us to activate our parasympathetic nervous system response,
Which is the rest and digest response of the body.
So we're telling our body we are safe,
There's nothing to worry about.
Now,
Get yourself comfortable as we're about to start our first breathing practice.
