This breathwork meditation is a friendly conversational guide to help you make sense of why your teen does what they do.
Through gentle breathing and relaxed reflection,
I'll reassure you that despite the chaos,
Everything is going to be okay.
Now let's find a comfortable space,
Take a deep breath,
And dive into this moment together.
I know this journey of raising a teenager can feel like an emotional roller coaster.
One minute they're laughing and the next they're storming off and you're left wondering what just happened.
So let's take a moment together,
Just you and me,
And breathe.
Trust me,
It helps.
Find a comfortable position,
Whether you're sitting or laying down,
And when you're ready let your eyes gently close.
Let's start with a deep breath in through your nose,
Fill your lungs completely,
And now sigh it out through your mouth,
Letting the air carry away some of the tension.
Feel your body settle a bit more with each breath.
Relax your shoulders,
Loosen your jaw,
And let those small muscles around your eyes and ears release.
You deserve this little moment of peace.
Now let's breathe in for a count of four.
One,
Two,
Three,
Four,
And hold for just a moment.
Then gently exhale for a count of six.
Five,
Four,
Three,
Two,
One.
Let's do that a few more times.
Breathe in nice and easy.
Three,
Four,
Hold for just a moment.
Then gently exhale for a count of six.
Five,
Four,
Three,
Two,
One.
Slow and steady.
One,
Two,
Three,
Four,
And hold.
Six,
Five,
Four,
Three,
Two,
One.
As you continue to do this,
I want you to think about your team.
You know they're navigating a lot right now.
Their world's changing fast,
And sometimes that makes them act in ways that leaves us scratching our heads.
Maybe they're slamming doors,
Maybe they're giving you the silent treatment,
Or maybe they're acting like they know it all.
But here's the thing,
They're doing their job.
It's their job to make mistakes,
To test boundaries,
To figure out who they are.
And it's our job to be their guide,
To breathe through these moments,
And to remember that no matter what it looks like,
They still need us.
Take another deep breath in,
And as you exhale,
Imagine yourself letting go of needing to control every little outcome.
I know,
It's easier said than done.
You want the best for them,
And it's hard not to jump in and fix things,
But sometimes the best thing we can do is to be the steady presence in the storm.
Breathe in again for four breaths.
One,
Two,
Three.
Breathe in again for four.
One,
Two,
Three,
Four.
Hold and breathe out for six,
Five,
Four,
Three,
Two,
One.
Let go of that worry.
Let it flow away with the exhale.
Your teen is learning how the world works.
They're figuring out how to make choices,
How to deal with the messes they make,
And even how to navigate relationships.
It's messy,
It's unpredictable,
And sometimes it's downright frustrating.
But it's completely normal.
Keep breathing in that slow rhythm.
In for four,
Hold,
And out for six.
As you breathe,
I want you to repeat this in your mind.
Everything is going to be okay.
Say it again,
And let yourself believe it,
Even just for a moment.
You might not have all the answers right now,
And honestly,
No one expects you to.
Your teen doesn't need you to be perfect.
They just need you to be there.
They need to know that even when they mess up,
You're the one who will still be here,
Breathing it all.
So take another breath in,
And this time imagine yourself filling with patience.
And as you breathe out,
Let go of any expectation that you need to have it all figured out.
You're doing your best,
And that's more than enough.
Take a couple more deep,
Easy breaths,
Letting each exhale settle you further into calm.
Relax your neck,
Soften your gaze behind your closed eyelids,
And just be here.
Imagine facing the next moment with your teen,
Whatever that looks like,
And picture yourself responding with compassion.
You've got this.
You're their anchor,
And no matter how wild the waves get,
You're right there,
Steady.
When you're ready,
Start to bring some gentle movement back into your body.
Wiggle your fingers and toes,
Maybe roll your shoulders a little,
And when it feels right,
Slowly open your eyes.
Remember this moment of breathing is always here for you.
Whenever it feels overwhelming,
You can always come back to your breath and remind yourself,
Everything is going to be okay.
One breath at a time,
One moment at a time.
You've got this.
Thank you for taking these few minutes to breathe with me.
Being a parent is a journey full of ups and downs,
And every time you take a moment like this,
You're giving both yourself and your teen a gift.
Be gentle with yourself,
And know that you're not alone in this.
Everything is going to be okay.
