Welcome to this short meditation,

Drifting far from the day.

You don't need to finish the day,

You don't need to make sense of it,

Or improve it,

Or carry anything forward.

Tonight is not asking that of you,

This is simply a place to drift,

Where the edges of the day can soften,

And awareness can begin to loosen its grip.

You can lie exactly as you are,

There is no position to find,

No breathing to manage,

No experience to create,

Just listening.

Imagine now that the day has gently set you down,

Not empty,

Just open,

A place where nothing is waiting for you,

And nothing is required.

The light here is dim and even,

Like that moment just before night fully arrives,

When nothing feels sharp anymore.

You don't need to picture this clearly,

This isn't about seeing,

It's about sensing a mood,

A softness,

A feeling of distance from effort.

In this place,

Time doesn't move the way it does during the day,

It slows,

It stretches,

It stops keeping track.

You begin to move through this space without intention,

Without direction,

Not walking toward anything,

Just drifting,

The way a thought drifts right before it dissolves into sleep.

If memories from the day appear,

They don't need your attention.

If plans for tomorrow try to follow you,

They can stay behind.

Nothing from the day needs you here.

Ahead of you is a sense of distance,

Not far away,

Just spacious,

Like standing near water at night when you can't see where it ends,

But you trust that it does.

The air feels steady here,

Neither warm nor cool.

It rests against you without asking anything.

You may notice now that your awareness doesn't need to stay sharp,

It can blur,

It can soften,

It can thin out at the edges.

There is no benefit to staying alert here,

You are allowed to fade.

You arrive at a place that feels right for resting.

It doesn't need a name,

It doesn't need a shape.

It's simply a sense of being held by something larger and quieter than thought.

You settle without deciding to,

As if your body recognizes this place before your mind does.

Everything that has been held up throughout the day can begin to lower now.

The shoulders no longer need to carry anything,

The face no longer needs to express anything,

The jaw doesn't need to hold the world together.

Thoughts may still pass through,

Faint,

Unfinished,

Barely forming before they dissolve.

You don't need to watch them,

They know how to disappear on their own.

The space around you grows quieter now,

Not silent,

Just free of demands,

As if the night itself has taken responsibility for everything you were holding.

There is nothing you need to listen for,

Nothing you might miss,

Nothing that requires your response.

You can let yourself sink further into this drifting,

Further from language,

Further from thinking,

Further from effort.

Awareness becomes more like atmosphere than attention,

Loose,

Floating,

Unfocused in the most natural way.

If sleep arrives quietly now,

You don't need to notice it happening.

You don't need to cross into it deliberately.

It can simply take you,

The way night takes over the sky without announcement.

And if you are still drifting,

That's fine too.

This place does not require an ending.

You can remain here,

Dissolving gently,

While rest deepens on its own.

There's nothing left to manage,

Nothing left to solve.

The day is far away now,

And sleep knows exactly how to find you.
