Hi,
I'm Dr.
Kim.
This is a gentle thumb pulling practice designed to encourage more space and mobility through the upper jaw,
Also known as the maxilla.
A lot of people carry tension,
Compression and asymmetry through the face from things like mouth breathing,
Clenching through the jaw,
Stress,
Orthodontic work and poor posture.
Over time,
This can contribute to symptoms like snoring,
Breathing difficulties,
Headaches,
Sinus congestion,
Jaw tension or asymmetry in the face and bite.
Personally,
I noticed some really amazing changes from doing this practice daily.
Previously,
I had facial asymmetry.
The left side of my face was visibly larger than my right and when I ran my tongue over the roof of my mouth,
I could feel that there was much less space on the right side compared to the left.
Additionally,
I've been wearing a retainer for many years and every time I put it in without fail,
It was always extremely tight to the point of pain.
When I started practicing thumb pulling,
Within a week,
My face started looking more even and my retainer became noticeably less tight,
Which told me that there was more space and mobility developing through my upper jaw.
This practice only takes one to two minutes of your time daily.
Let's begin.
Stand up straight,
Roll your shoulders back and down and shift your skull backwards so it lays in alignment with your shoulders.
Place your thumbs on the roof of your mouth inside your upper teeth.
Breathe deeply and very gently start to apply upwards and outwards pressure on the roof of your mouth using your thumbs.
No pushing or pulling on the teeth.
Keep it directed towards your upper palate.
Increase that pressure and tuck your chin down slightly.
Use this counter pressure to expand that palate further.
And now relax your face completely.
You may actually feel your cheekbones start to expand,
Shifting upwards and outwards.
Last breath here,
Hold the chin tuck and gently release.
Bring your hands away from your mouth.
Run your tongue along the roof of your palate.
Notice the difference in feeling in your face,
Sinuses,
Nasal passageways and mouth.
Repeat this thumb pull daily for best results.
Thank you so much for listening to this practice.
