If you've just come through a difficult conversation,
You may notice that even though the conversation itself has ended,
Part of you is still inside it.
Your mind may be replaying what was said.
You may be thinking about what you wish you had said differently.
Or trying to figure out what happens next.
And your body may still be carrying some of the activation from the interaction.
For these next few minutes,
You don't need to resolve any of that.
This is simply a chance to come back to yourself.
Begin by allowing your gaze to move gently around the space you're in.
Notice a few things around you.
The light.
Colors or shapes.
Something familiar.
Something that reminds your nervous system that you are here.
In this place now.
The conversation happened,
And now you are here.
Begin to notice the support beneath you.
If you'd like to,
You may close your eyes or take a soft downward gaze.
Feel where your body meets the chair.
The bed.
Or the ground beneath you.
If your feet are touching the floor,
Notice the contact there.
Allow yourself to notice you don't have to hold yourself up entirely on your own.
Let yourself receive some of that support.
And now notice what's happening inside your body.
Without trying to change anything.
Simply notice where you may still be holding the conversation.
Maybe there's tightness in your jaw or throat.
Something in your chest A knot or fluttering in your belly.
Tension across your shoulders.
Or perhaps there isn't one particular place.
You don't have to understand what you're feeling.
Just notice what is here.
If it feels supportive,
Place a hand somewhere on your body.
Maybe over your heart,
Your chest,
Your belly,
Or anywhere that feels natural to you.
Feel the warmth and weight of your own hand you might simply let it rest there.
Or perhaps a little gentle rubbing or light tapping would feel good.
There's no right way to do this.
Let the touch be a small gesture of support toward yourself.
A way of saying,
I'm here.
You may care deeply about what happened.
You may need to return to the conversation later.
There may be something to repair or say.
A boundary to consider.
Or something you simply don't know yet about how it will all turn out.
But you don't have to work all of that out right now.
And you don't have to keep having the conversation inside your body.
See if you can notice this moment.
Your breath.
Your body.
Your feelings.
Your own experience.
And gently allow anything that belongs to the other person to remain with them.
You can care without carrying every part of what happened.
Take one slow,
Comfortable breath.
Not a breath you have to make especially deep.
Just enough to notice the inhale.
And the exhale.
Maybe allowing the exhale to soften something just a little.
And before we finish,
You might quietly ask yourself,
What do I need next?
You don't need to search for the perfect answer.
Perhaps you need quiet,
A glass of water,
Some movement or fresh air,
A little space or connection with someone you trust.
Maybe you simply need a few more minutes before doing anything at all.
Let whatever you notice be enough.
Feel the support beneath you once more.
Notice the room around you.
And remember.
You don't have to solve everything that happened in this moment.
For now,
You can simply return to yourself.
One breath.
One small act of support at a time.
And when you're ready,
Gently continue with your day.
