Welcome,
This is Daphne.
Let's take a few moments to help your mind and body settle.
If your mind feels busy tonight,
Or your thoughts keep replaying the day,
You're not alone.
Many nervous systems become more mentally active at night.
Rather than trying to force your mind to stop thinking,
We're simply going to help your body settle.
Begin by noticing the surface beneath you.
The bed supporting your body.
Allow yourself to feel that support.
Gently bring your awareness to your breathing.
Let the inhale arrive naturally.
Allow the exhale to extend just a little longer.
Nothing forced,
Just letting the breath slow down a little.
You might notice your shoulders.
Let them soften slightly.
Perhaps relaxing the jaw.
Allowing the muscles around and behind the eyes to soften.
Now bring your attention to the feeling of the blanket or sheets against your body.
The small points of contact where your body meets the bed.
Allow your awareness to settle there.
Your mind may still produce thoughts.
That's completely normal.
Each time you notice thinking,
You might gently guide your attention back to the body.
Back to the breath.
Back to the support beneath you.
Take another slow breath in.
As you exhale,
Allow the body to soften a little more into the bed.
Your nervous system is allowed to rest now.
The day is complete.
There is nothing more you need to do tonight.
Your body and mind can rest now.
If thoughts appear,
You might gently return your attention to the feeling of the breath.
Or the support of the bed beneath you.
Allow the body to rest here.
Sleep can come whenever it's ready.
