Hello and welcome to begin a poem by Khalil Gibran.
It is said that before entering the sea a river trembles with fear.
She looks back at the path she has traveled,
From the peaks of the mountains,
The long winding road crossing forests and villages.
And in front of her she sees an ocean so vast that to enter there seems nothing more than to disappear forever.
But there is no other way.
The river cannot go back,
Nobody,
Nobody can go back.
To go back is impossible in existence.
The river needs to take the risk of entering the ocean because only then will fear disappear.
Because that is where the river will know it's not about disappearing into the ocean but of becoming the ocean.
It is not about disappearing into the ocean but of becoming the ocean.
Welcome to today's meditation on allowing fear to be a companion in your life.
A meditation that will encourage and support you in no longer running away from fear but turning towards it with curiosity and compassion.
I am your meditation guide Anissa Amat.
Thank you for being here with me.
You can let your guard down.
You can take the armor off.
The armor that has shielded you.
The armor that you believed was protecting you for so long.
I know it must be heavy but you can take it off now.
You can be here in this life,
In this love,
In this joy with all of you.
You do not have to be fearless.
You also don't have to be fearful.
So full of fear that you hold yourself back from stepping into your greatest potential.
From stepping into your purpose.
From stepping into love or yourself.
Rather,
You can experience fear.
You are allowed to be afraid.
You are allowed to want to run away and to hide and to not deal or to not do.
You are allowed.
Now,
I am not encouraging action behind the not wanting.
I am simply suggesting that you are allowed to feel these things in your body.
I am simply suggesting that you are allowed to delve into a sea of wonder and swim with the questions that arise and be totally drenched in the answers that come up.
I am simply suggesting that the fear that leads to the curiosity that leads to the wonder peels back a layer that gets you closer to you.
And that is the intention,
Right?
To shed the layers of the stories that we have been told and believed.
To learn ourselves,
To gain a greater understanding or a deeper knowing of who we are,
Of who we really are,
Of who we were meant to be on this earth and in this world and in our lives and in the lives of those we love.
Now,
That is the intention,
Right?
But fear,
Many of us have been taught or have heard or received the messaging that we are supposed to be fearless.
That we are supposed to live our lives void of fear because somehow experiencing fear made one weak.
It made one a coward.
When I think about that messaging and how false and untrue it is,
I think about all of the times that my fear has saved me.
I think about all of the times that my fear and my intuition danced a beautiful dance and protected me from danger.
I think about the fact that maybe,
Just maybe,
We do not give our fear enough credit.
I will admit sometimes we give it too much power,
But not enough credit.
So how do we begin to befriend our fear?
How do we begin to allow it to be a companion on our journey but not the captain of the ship?
We begin here and now.
If you haven't already,
Close your eyes or soften your gaze.
Settling in,
Just settling in.
Noticing any thoughts that may arise.
Simply noticing.
Knowing that the thoughts are there but not giving them any energy or power.
Allowing the thoughts to drift through the abyss of your mind.
Being here,
Just being here.
Noticing your breath.
Allowing yourself to be aware of the in-breath and the out-breath.
If you are finding it challenging to notice your natural flow of breath,
Place one or both hands over your belly,
Feeling as it rises and falls.
We are settling in,
Just settling in.
If you have placed your hand on your belly,
Maybe moving your hand to your heart,
Feeling as it beats underneath the palm of your hand,
Effortlessly,
Without being told to.
It just beats,
It supports you,
It loves you,
It beats for you.
The sacred organ that gives you life,
Keeps you going.
Maybe placing your hands on your knees,
If you are sitting in an upright position,
Or allowing them to fall along the sides of you,
The most repeated narrative when it comes to fear is that we have to be fearless.
Or we cannot walk a road with fear because fear somehow equates to failure.
Where are the messages that tell us that fear is allowed to walk with us?
Where are the messages that tell us that fear does not have to be the captain,
But that it can be a companion on the journey to our greatness?
To our greatest accomplishments,
To our successes,
To our journey throughout life?
Consider this your love nudge.
You can create a magical life for yourself.
You can create a miraculous life for yourself.
A life so miraculous that miracles aren't surprises anymore because you live and breathe the freedom of miracle.
You can create this life and allow your life to be a miracle even with the fear present.
How do you do that?
You greet your fear when it is present.
Acknowledge it.
Let it known that it is seen and felt.
Reassure it that there is no danger here.
Give it permission to walk with you just to be sure.
Thank the fear for its protection.
Assure it that you are so deeply grateful that it is here to look out for you.
Kindly tell the fear,
I don't need you right now though,
I'm safe.
It is safe here.
Remind the fear that it is a companion on this journey but it cannot be the captain of this ship of your life.
I call this becoming an alchemist of fear.
By allowing the fear to be here and choosing to create a miraculous life anyway.
By allowing the fear to be here and choosing to live your life according to you anyway.
By acknowledging the fear and not running from it,
Remembering that what we resist persists.
But acknowledging it with a loving and gentle kindness and attention and reminding it that there is no danger here.
Reminding it that you are safe.
Thank you for allowing me to guide you on this journey.
I hope that this meditation encourages you to be with your fear and to not run from it.
To allow it to ride with you as you journey through your life.
Knowing and remembering that it can be there but so can courage and joy and love and curiosity and bravery and fulfillment.
And so it is.
