Ever wonder how two people can go through the same thing… and walk away with totally different stories? Me too. What I’ve come to see is this: We’re all looking through our own mental lens—shaped by thought, mood, memory, and meaning. It’s not wrong. It’s human. I will share what I have come to see as a nurse mental wellness guide and as a person of faith. Take a listen.

Welcome to Beyond Separate Realities,

Seeing with Fresh Eyes.

You know that moment when someone tells you a story,

One you were a part of,

Like an event or a party,

And you're like,

Wait,

What?

That's not how it happened.

It's strange,

Right?

Same event,

Totally different experience.

I used to find that really confusing.

I think,

Are we even remembering the same thing?

But what I've come to understand is this.

We actually don't experience life as it is.

We experience it as we are in that moment,

Through our own unique mental lens,

Shaped by thought,

By mood,

By memory,

And meaning.

We're not broken.

We're just human,

Each of us living in what some call a separate reality.

And here's where it softens.

When I remember this,

I stop needing everyone to see things my way.

I make room for others to see through their own lens,

And for me,

Perhaps to learn something new,

Too.

There's a line in scripture that reminds me of this.

Each of us is an original.

And that's not a flaw.

That's the beauty of how we're made.

So the next time someone sees it differently than you,

Pause,

Take a breath,

Let it be okay.

You're both doing the best you can through the lens that you have in the moment.

You don't have to fix it.

Just recognize it and trust that God is working in both your lives,

In his time.

Until next time,

This is Wendy Williams.
