When life feels uncertain,
Our minds can race and our hearts feel truly unsettled.
And one of my clients says that when this happens to her,
She feels wobbly.
And I really appreciate that language she uses.
Welcome to Grounded with Wendy.
In this short meditation,
I invite you to come back to your roots,
To the quiet strength within you that knows how to wait,
How to breathe,
And how to stay grounded even when the future is very unclear.
And I just need to share that as I sat to record this meditation,
A neighbor is actually taking down a tree.
And I,
I am also wobbly.
And so I'm just gonna start by thanking you for meditating with me today.
And so let's sit together and let your eyes gently close if that feels safe for you.
And bring your attention inwards and think about dropping from your head space and the whirling that it naturally does.
Drop it into your heart space.
Take a slow,
Full breath in through your nose.
And if it feels good,
Audibly let that out with a sigh.
And if it feels good,
Do it again.
Sometimes the audible sigh helps our molecules get realigned.
Let your body begin to settle.
Feel your body's contact with whatever you're sitting or standing on or laying on.
Notice how the earth holds you without any questions,
Without effort.
You are supported.
Bring your awareness back to the breath,
Not changing it,
Just noticing it.
With every inhale,
Imagine drawing in steadiness.
Steadiness.
With every exhale,
Release tension,
Worry,
And the natural want to and need for control.
Bring to your mind a picture of a tree.
And we're gonna connect your person with the tree,
Your spine,
The trunk,
Strong and upright.
Your legs and feet,
The roots spreading deep into the soil beneath you.
Every breath,
Feeling the roots grow deeper,
Deeper into the nourishing earth,
Anchoring you,
Grounding you.
You are not hurried.
You are not lost.
You are rooted.
Now imagine your chest and your shoulders as strong branches opening outward,
Receiving light and taking up space.
Your breath moves through you like wind in the leaves,
Very gentle.
Natural.
And the wind may blow and storms may come,
But you are connected to something deeper.
Inviting you to the thought that you belong to the earth.
The tree doesn't rush.
Nature doesn't rush.
It does not demand that the season change.
It trusts the rhythm of nature.
And so the offering is for you to actually trust your own unfolding,
Even when the path ahead is super wonky and unclear,
Scary.
So let this image as you as tree anchor you.
You might like to say or repeat after me,
I stand in stillness and strength.
I trust the roots I've grown.
And when your mind wanders,
Just consider that the wind and rooted,
Steady and patient.
And as we come to the end today,
I want to offer you a journal prompt.
Maybe it's just something you think about and carry through your day.
I'd like you to think about a time when you felt uncertain,
And a time when you did stay grounded.
Where did you find strength and steadiness,
Even just for a little moment?
Was it people,
Maybe a practice,
Or a habit,
Or a rhythm?
Perhaps it's your belief system,
An inner wisdom,
Your intuition.
Sometimes easier to ask these questions than answer them.
And maybe you take some time to find your own mantra.
But if you'd like to try this one on for today,
I'll end with this.
I may not know what's next.
But I do know how to breathe,
Be still,
And trust the season I'm in.
Thank you for meditating with me.
