Facing Fear Talk + Practice
by Tony Samara
Fear is a very pervasive and basic aspect of being human, so that we can remember certain things are not good for us to do. However, it can become an obstacle that needs to be overcome, as it may be the negative emotions within, creating fear in the first place. With an interesting explanation about fear and the energy attached to such, a 5 minute guided breathing meditation followed by 2 minutes of silence, allows us to relax the heart, and with our mindful awareness release the old fears, as they are one-by-one put into perspective.

Mon TH bonus waking are always giving greathing a heart so stocks per mile instant pom MoI yes Hello,
In the background there is the gentle sound of white noise just to help you to relax a little bit more deeply.
It relaxes an important aspect of meditation,
Especially when facing fear.
Fear is one of the most pervasive and basic of human emotions.
So there is no way of avoiding fear.
It's inbuilt into our genetics,
At least for now,
So that we can survive situations,
So that we can keep going when there are difficult situations around us.
So fear helps us to remember that certain things are just not good to do.
It's an inbuilt mechanism.
But if it becomes an obstacle to say,
Enjoying life or to just being happy and being relaxed and just enjoying the wonders of being alive,
Then fear can become an obstacle.
And it's an obstacle that many,
Many people,
Especially Western people,
Desperately have to face and overcome.
And overcome what,
You might ask,
You know,
What is fear?
It's basically negative emotions.
Fear is one of those very negative aspects of oneself that when translated as an emotion,
Becomes a very negative emotion.
So we are afraid of fear,
Not because we know that we're afraid of a specific,
Tangible,
Real type situation,
But we could just be afraid of fear because we're afraid of fear.
So we're afraid of the unknown.
We're afraid of this.
We're afraid of that.
But it's nothing really tangible or specific enough to say,
Avoid or change.
It's just this all inclusive type fear,
Feeling or fear of perception that overwhelms us.
Fear does overwhelm many.
So it's important to recognize this because once you recognize it,
Once you notice that the mind that is thinking is filled with fearful thoughts,
And once you notice that the feeling body is full of fearful feelings that weren't apparent before,
They were just there in the background,
Hidden behind,
Veiled behind all sorts of situations.
When you become aware and mindful that this is what's going on,
Then you can do something about it,
Which is what today's meditation is about.
How do I move beyond being anxious?
How do I move beyond being afraid about something that I don't even know what that something is?
I don't even understand what that something is.
First you need to realize what fear is,
What the fear energy is all about.
And you do this as you begin to meditate,
Because as you create a mindful attention or a mindful awareness of what is there,
Then everything comes up to the surface and is explored and released.
It's important to remember this.
It's released just by seeing what is there.
Say the unknown becomes obvious.
Oh,
I'm afraid of really nothing very much.
Then those old fears that surface up that you're exploring get released simply because they're put into perspective.
There is a sense of understanding and wisdom that allows you to go deeper into the meditation so that that wisdom takes you back to the space of the heart rather than the negative emotions or negative mindset that so many people are stuck in and so many people are struggling with.
You come back to that part of yourself,
The heart that is relaxed,
That is not afraid,
That is not stressed,
That is not anxious,
That is not challenged by those negative emotions,
Because what is coming up as you sit in meditation,
As you let go,
As you release,
Is that fear is no longer the obstacle.
And when you affirm this in your meditation,
When you understand this in your body and your bones,
Then fear is just what it is.
It's an aspect of humanity that is helpful in certain situations.
It doesn't go beyond that.
So we put things into perspective.
We understand that that perspective in our meditation,
We understand that that perspective means not struggling or fighting or pushing the fear away,
But recognizing the communication within fear.
So fear creates all sorts of interesting situations.
Fear is not as bad as the mind thinks it to be.
Fear is not as bad as the emotional body feels it to be.
It's actually really in the end a teacher that has been sent to us to remind us that life is not about struggling,
Life is not about fighting and being terrified that we may just end up somewhere that will create more suffering.
Fear is actually helpful because it asks us to move on,
To move beyond that state of consciousness that fear creates,
Which is a reactive and very stuck state of consciousness.
We react to the situations,
We react to our fear with negative emotions and negative thoughts.
When we understand that this is not the way,
We become receptive to the information,
To the teacher,
To the wisdom that is within fear.
And the wisdom which is within fear is that you need to walk on this path very consciously.
You need to understand that even if you feel suffering,
Even if your mind is caught up in tension and worry and stress,
You need to come back to compassion and love.
And just understand that even if you're in darkness,
There is this light deep within your heart that helps you to walk towards this beautiful space of receptivity,
This beautiful space where you're open and you can let go of the fear.
One way to do this,
As we will practice in the meditation now,
Is to connect to your breath.
Because whenever you are reactive to a situation around you or within you,
Whenever you are reactive to the situations that create this negative thought pattern or this negative feeling pattern,
Then the breath gets caught up in the fear.
And we know this shallow breathing or breathing in a certain way where the depth of breath is not happening.
There is no coherence in the way that you're breathing because you're not breathing into the abdomen.
The breath is more lost in the feelings or negative feelings and negative thoughts rather than just a natural creative flow.
That is our birthright.
When a little baby is born,
Their breath,
Usually their breath is beautiful and flows in this way.
So when we connect to our breathing in our meditation,
We are allowing ourselves to be conscious,
To be aware,
And then to let go through the breath,
To let go of the tension,
To let go of those thoughts,
To let go of those feelings that may be negative,
That may be sort of holding us back so that we are reacting to situations rather than being receptive to the wisdom and the teacher within.
The light that shines bright and allows you to expand from your experience rather than contract into more negativity or more reactivity.
So as you now relax the body,
As you let go,
Be aware that the breath relaxes as you let go of tension,
As you let go of those feelings of stress and anxiety,
As you let go of those negative thoughts and negative feelings.
Notice how the body relaxes.
Just be aware and mindful of the relaxation and you may just want to help the body to relax by relaxing your shoulders,
Relaxing the muscles around the diaphragm,
Relaxing the body as you breathe out.
Deep outbreath.
Breathing out,
Letting go.
All one has to do is to focus.
Right now you can just focus on the outbreath.
This is all one has to do.
Focusing on the outbreath helps the body to relax and to let go.
You could also extend the breath,
The outbreath extending in its duration so that you are breathing out for a little bit longer in duration than say the inbreath.
You can do this to help you understand the outbreath in this way.
You can do this by counting,
Say,
Breathing out to six and breathing in four if this helps you.
It's not a struggle.
It's not fighting with the way that your breath naturally flows,
But it's just reminding your breath that you don't need to shallow breathe.
You don't need to get caught in the reactive thoughts and the reactive feelings.
Can be receptive to the natural flow within a relaxed state.
So this means relaxing physically and energetically.
Breathing out,
Letting go.
Deep breath.
Keep reminding yourself that there is no need to struggle.
Let go.
It is important to let go of the struggle.
Your fear isn't your focus.
It's an obstacle to your progress.
So when you come back to letting go in this way,
Every little step of the way,
You're letting go of those constrictions and obstructions and all sorts of things that get in the way.
So use your practice as this beautiful possibility now to work through your fear and following the energy of your heart.
Know that you'll be free.
As you relax and let go,
You'll be free of your stress.
You'll be free of your anxiety.
You'll be free of those negative thoughts and negative feelings,
Step by step,
All the way letting go of the struggle,
Letting go of the tension.
Just relaxing as you breathe out,
Extending the out breath.
Breathing in,
Breathing out.
Enjoying the depth of relaxation that you're feeling in your body.
Enjoying the space of relaxation that allows you to extend your energy outwards so that you are relaxed and the atmosphere around you,
The energy around you relaxes.
Deep breath.
And you may wish to continue in stillness for a few more moments and remind yourself throughout the day today that just coming back to the breath in this way,
Even if it's just for a minute,
Is an excellent way of reminding yourself that you can come back to relaxation rather than be caught by the reactivity of fear in all sorts of situations.
Your practice,
Your meditational practice continues throughout the day.
Good night.
Good night.
Good night.
Thank you.
Good night.
