Dear friends,
Here is a new morning prayer.
Spirit of creation,
Thank you for bringing me to the start of yet another new day.
Help me today to be aware of the gift of my existence and what a blessing it is to have people who know and care for me.
In the ups and downs of this day,
Remind me frequently that this too shall pass.
When I am tempted to moan and complain about the minor inconveniences of life,
Bring to my notice that all is going well.
There are many benefits I enjoy which are beyond the imagination of the people who came before me.
May I not forget that due to good fortune and precious little work on my part,
I have so many advantages which I wish were universally enjoyed by all people,
And not just by the lucky few.
During this day,
May I stop from time to time to come back to a place of awareness and gratitude.
At mealtimes,
Remind me that the food I receive is the product of the hard work of so many people,
An enduring example of human cooperation.
Let me be thankful for the good earth which brings forth this food,
Water which brings life to everything that lives,
And the sunshine providing warmth for this fragile planet as it floats in the darkness of space.
Let me tread gently on the earth today,
Avoiding needless and heedless overconsumption and waste,
So that I can play my part in helping to preserve this planet for future generations of people and living creatures.
Give me the opportunity today to lend a helping hand.
And if a chance to do a good deed doesn't present itself to me on a plate,
Let me create an opportunity to perform some act of unexpected kindness.
It costs nothing but kindness and consideration to make that call,
To send that overdue message,
To hold open a door for someone,
To let someone else go first,
To help a person onto a bus or help them cross a road.
As this day comes to an end,
Let me remember to take a written note of one or two or three things for which I can look back in thankfulness.
Before I drift into sleep,
Let me send out thoughts of loving kindness to the people close to me,
And out into our wider wonderful world.
Tonight,
Let me rest content in the knowledge that this day at least,
I've done my best.
May they come to us one by one,
These wonderful,
Amazing,
Never to be repeated days of our lives.
Namaste.
