Every now and then,
A door we used to pass through regularly,
With ease,
Closes on us.
Sometimes it is because the door becomes stiff.
Perhaps the wood it is made from swells up.
Perhaps the hinges have rusted up and stiffened.
Perhaps somebody locks it from the other side.
At first we might put our weight into getting it open.
We might plead with the owner of the key to let us through once more.
Or we could take it as a sign and take a step back and assess our predicament.
Of course the sign might be that there are many other doors that we can step through.
This might be a little unnerving as it asks us to step into new territory.
But this is a good starting point.
So what would the nature of this new door be,
And how might we find it?
Well,
Let's think about all the types of doors that exist.
The best ones might be those that open automatically.
This is easy for us,
But stand too near and they open when you are not ready to step through.
Some doors don't hinge open,
But slide open gracefully.
Keep an eye out for these as they auger in a transition.
Some doors require a key,
Or these days an access code.
This can be for good reason,
As what is on the other side is not for everybody,
And access should be monitored,
Controlled and restricted for those who are ready.
Some of these types of doors only allow access in exchange for payment.
The one that lets you into the gym,
For example.
Again,
This is no bad thing,
As it helps create a safe space inside.
But some doors are made of glass,
So you can actually see what is on the other side before you enter.
Some doors even revolve,
But go in too fast,
And you can end up back where you started.
An alternative is the stable door,
Which is made from two parts.
A fixed lower part,
And an opening upper part.
You can lean on the lower,
And take a peek inside,
And even enter preliminary dialogue with those on the other side.
But there are also metaphorical doors,
The ones in our mind.
Doors that we have closed for our safety,
Perhaps.
Doors we do not even know exist.
Doors that give us access to both new inner and outer worlds.
Doors that give us access to new temples and sacred spaces.
These rare and esoteric types of doors present themselves in a few ways.
Mainly when we are not particularly looking,
Or when we find a set of keys and wonder what they might open.
But mostly when we stop pushing against the door that has become hard to open.
