This is both an exploratory talk and an opportunity for reflection.

I call these MediTalks.

It is one of a pair inspired and accompanied by the ambient track Northern Lights by the amazingly talented Manuel Portillo.

The other is called How to Spot a Humangle.

If you have been lucky enough to have seen the Northern Lights up close and personal as I have twice,

You will have witnessed one of nature's true marvels.

We can be so struck down in wonder and awe that it's easy to miss what has happened to cause such fluorescence.

Let me share a brief scientific explanation of how they occur.

A day or more before you see them a relatively small area on the surface of our sun became magnetically unstable and charged particles escape its immense gravity and ascent our way at sub-light speed.

They are known sometimes as coronal mass ejections and it should be noted that they radiate out in many directions from our sun and indeed from every star and are not just pointed at us.

When they do hit the Earth's magnetosphere over 60,

000 km in the sun's direction they get deflected and bent around to the north and south poles where they interact with higher reaches of the Earth's upper atmosphere and collide with atoms of oxygen and nitrogen.

Electrons around the atoms are excited into higher states and as they fall back down to stasis light in wondrous colours is emitted.

While the physical mechanism is a basic yet fairly accurate explanation of what happens let me now postulate a completely alternative metaphysical version of events.

Our sun and all stars are conscious but not in a way we recognise or understand.

Similarly,

Our Earth and all planets are also conscious but again not quite in the same way that we exhibit a level of self-aware consciousness.

The consciousness of the Earth is referred to as being a pneumosphere which contains the intelligence our planet needs to maintain its biosphere and its position around the sun in what's called the Goldilocks zone.

Too warm,

And not too cold,

Just right.

Our sun also contains a consciousness let's call it a solosphere noting that the syllable SOL could also be spelt S-O-U-L.

The solosphere of all stars have the knowledge of how to maintain a solar system in all their myriad forms.

The solosphere extends out way past all known planets past the Kuiper belt to a spherical region called the Oort cloud thought to extend as much as a light-year away from the sun.

Our planet is somewhat special as it's the only one that we know to harbour life and life with a degree of self-awareness.

This,

By the way,

Is not just us.

While we often think of ourselves as separate from the sun and the stars each one of the atoms that makes us came from stars that exploded billions of years ago.

We are literally conscious stardust.

Imagine,

Though,

That if the consciousness itself is not separate from the stars but that it actually emanates from the stars themselves.

This gives our sun a way to get to know and appreciate itself by giving rise to life on at least one of its planets that can look back in awe at the sun especially when observing an eclipse or the aurora.

Imagine this,

Then.

Coronal mass ejections are the mechanism whereby the sun consciousness is transferred to planet Earth.

So when we observe an aurora we are looking at the arrival of new consciousness.

Such new consciousness permeates out from the magnetic field of the Earth and attaches itself to the embryo just after conception.

This is in all life forms.

Note that some coronal mass ejections have tendrils that still connect to the surface of the sun as they reach Earth.

As such,

They may act as bidirectional portals whereby souls also leave our planet and get reabsorbed by the sun.

Just relax now in Manuel's ambience and let me leave you to muse on an even more mind-boggling thought.

If a coronal mass ejection misses the Earth as most of them do it will keep going through interplanetary and interstellar space until it hits something.

While it will get weaker some particles from our sun might end up on planets orbiting other stars.

If this is so then coronal mass ejections from other stars light-years away may eventually reach planet Earth.

So muse on this then.

Are there people around us that come a little further afield than is commonly thought?

Beautiful Tom! I’m so fortunate to be able to see the Auroras often live in Alaska. They have been spectacular this year! They have also been visible in so many places that normally don’t get this opportunity to see them. My favorite thing to do when they are out to to bundle up and go outside and lay down and just watch them dance. It’s truly magnificent. πŸ™πŸ»πŸ’•

I have been fortunate to see a number Aurora Borealis especially as a young person growing up in the north. Was always in awe of the phenomenon but never really understood the significance and principles behind them. You have a magnificent way of sharing thought provoking idea that guide us in our own self reflection journey. Thank you Tom.
