You are about to embark on a journey that will help release your inner creative self.
Find a position that is relaxing and comfortable for you and begin by closing your eyes.
Focus your attention on the breath.
Quickly breathe in deeply,
Hold for a second and exhale slowly.
And breathe in deeply again,
Hold for a second and exhale slowly.
Release a sigh on the next exhale,
Signalling to the body it is time to relax and let go.
Feel your body relax with each in-breath and notice how any tension begins to subside and leave your body with each out-breath.
Now transfer your attention to any sensations around the body.
Allow yourself a few moments to simply focus on the sensation of your body as it naturally rises and falls with each breath.
Be totally at ease with any thoughts,
Feelings or sensations that may arise.
Simply return to the breath and permit them to pass by.
Now imagine that you find yourself beside a calm flowing river,
Surrounded by the green rolling hills of the countryside.
Ahead of you are fields of colourful flowers.
The scents soothing the warm countryside air,
Which flowers can you see?
The warmth of the sun rejuvenates your skin and allows your facial muscles to relax.
This place is your secret sanctuary.
You are free to relax,
Safe in the knowledge that you are the only person who knows where this wonderful place is.
This is the perfect environment,
Just as you imagined it would be.
In front of you,
The gentle river continues to flow,
Naturally.
Imagine that the moist air slowly wisps around your body as you breathe in,
Allowing you to relax even further as you breathe out.
Turn your attention towards the sounds that immerse your surroundings.
Can you identify where they are coming from?
It could be in front of you,
To either side,
Or even behind you.
Focus on how some sounds are more noticeable than others.
Look for the silence between the sounds,
The spaces where the sounds are,
Where they intensify and fade out.
Don't worry if your mind has started to wander.
Simply return your focus to the breath for a few moments and then back to the sounds of the created river.
Like the river,
You are always flowing through life,
Always present.
In the distance,
You notice a small wooden raft gently drifting down the river.
The wooden raft drifts towards the shallow shore in front of you.
You notice there is a soft layer of hay generously placed on top of the raft.
As you step forward onto the raft,
You can feel the soft hay between your toes.
You can choose to sit or lie down on the safe wooden raft.
No harm can come to you.
You feel safe and secure.
The river underneath you flows with perfect consistency,
An artery of creative flow carrying its willing passenger.
As you feel yourself gliding along the river,
Simply focus your attention on the natural sounds around you.
If your mind has begun to wander onto different things,
Don't worry.
This is part of your relaxing journey.
Simply return your focus to the breath for a few moments and then back to the sounds of the creative river.
To the side of the winding river,
You spot a small stream flowing down from the mountains over the edge of a rocky waterfall feeding the creative river's main artery,
Each water droplet carrying creative energy.
As you drift past the waterfall,
Imagine a droplet of creative energy washing over your body,
Enabling you to relax a little further.
You feel free,
Empowered,
Oozing with creativity.
And now return your attention to the natural sounds around you.
If your mind has begun to wander onto different things,
Again,
Simply return your focus to the breath for a few moments and then back to the sounds of the creative river.
The river eventually flows into a wide,
Still area of swamp-like water.
Debris,
Leaves,
And twigs are all lying calmly on the water's surface.
The underlying water currents safely carry the wooden raft onto the riverbank.
With a playful hop,
You leave the wooden raft and sit peacefully on the long grass beside the riverbank.
According to your conscious body,
You are grateful for the journey you have been on.
You notice the relaxing sensation of your beating heart as it pumps blood through your arteries enabling your creative mind to flow,
In the same way that the mountainous streams and waterfalls feed the river of creativity.
As you take one final deep breath in,
Imagine creativity is in the oxygen as it flows around your body,
And exhale slowly.
Remember that any time you can return to this beautiful safe haven.
When you're ready,
Begin to gently flicker your eyes until they are opened in your own time.
