My name is Ashley Tucker and I serve as assistant principal at a special education middle school in Brooklyn,
New York.
I'm going to be honest,
My job can bring stress and problems to solve.
I start my day with affirmations and intentional practices because I know many different things are going to come my way,
Regardless of how much I love my staff and students.
Affirmations help me reduce my anxiety and increase my positive self-talk as I go into the day.
First,
Let's start with some cleansing breaths.
Just breathing in through the nose,
Holding your breath at the top,
And exhale through the mouth and a sigh.
Let's do that again.
Inhale,
Hold,
And release.
Inhale,
Hold,
And release.
Now I'm going to share some words that I use to affirm myself as I start my school day.
I remind myself of my power and I make sure I believe in it.
You can repeat after me,
To yourself,
Or out loud,
Or just listen.
Just be here now.
I am grateful for this day.
I have the freedom to choose my intention for today.
I will treat myself with patience and care.
I am equipped.
I am not attached to perfection.
Every experience is an opportunity for learning.
I am doing enough.
The work that I do matters.
I can come back to the breath if I find myself in any stressful situation.
I believe in myself and my abilities.
I center joy in my practice whenever possible.
While I cannot control what is happening around me,
I can be a home for myself.
Thank you for seeking out practices that bring you joy,
Support,
And community.
I hope that you come back to the breath,
Come back to words of affirmation as often as you need throughout your day.
Have a great one.
