Let's normalize grief on a GLP-1 medication journey and three ways to handle the grief.
Now,
Of course,
There's a spectrum of grief that is normal and expected on a GLP-1 medication,
But it is not talked about.
Two different ends of the spectrum of grief on a GLP.
The first is,
Is I'm on the medication and I just feel like I'm not getting the results that I see so many people out in the world getting.
I'm not getting the results that match up to what the media is saying.
And then the second is,
Is wow,
I've had a tremendous amount of physical transformation,
But the inside of me hasn't caught up with the outside of me.
Questions like,
Who am I now?
How do I relate to the world in a different way?
When I feel the same on the inside even though I look different on the outside.
Both of these are great examples about how grief is normal,
And we should normalize this through the different kinds of experiences people are having.
So there are three ways to really normalize grief.
And cope with grief while you're on a GLP-1 medication,
No matter where you are on the spectrum,
Is number one.
Is to really tell your story of grief,
To write it down.
To be able to take a look at it.
Get it from the inside out,
Pen to paper.
Write down what your grief story is.
The second thing is to normalize that there is no one way to be experiencing GLP-1 medications and the journey that comes along with it.
You actually say that out loud.
Here's my experience and it's normal to be having the kind of grief that I'm feeling come up.
Saying that to yourself.
Quite a lot.
And getting outside help,
By the way,
If it's needed through counseling,
Therapists,
Friends and family.
Third most important piece is asking yourself the question,
The part of me that is feeling grief Does it need anything from me?
Does it need extra support?
And if so,
What might it be?
And that's a little bit of an imaginative and creative process.
But go ahead and ask yourself the part of me that's grieving.
Is there anything extra support,
Any words of encouragement that it might need from me?
And then go ahead and see if you can practice giving that to yourself.
