A mindful tea or coffee drinking exercise.
Often we spend our day doing some ordinary daily things without even notice that we're doing them,
Operating on autopilot.
And this is a wonderful practice to take something simple in our day and notice what changes when we apply a mindfulness practice to such a simple exercise.
So taking your time to go into your kitchen,
Put on the kettle,
And listen to the sound of the water boiling.
Also bringing your awareness and gratitude to the fact that you have running water without judgment or attachment,
Just noticing with gratitude.
Then noticing the mug that you choose,
Feeling the coolness of the ceramic in your hands as you place the mug down on your kitchen table.
Then be aware of the tea bag or tea leaves or perhaps the coffee granules that you choose and place in your mug.
Simply notice without judging or getting attached to perhaps which tea bag you choose or the variety of coffee that you choose.
Just simply noticing the leaves or the granules.
And for a moment consider how this tea bag or these granules got all the way to your kitchen.
Think without attachment and without judgment.
Have a little bit of gratitude for this plant that has grown in the earth,
That comes from Mother Earth,
That has been picked with love and hard work,
That has been transported all the way to your home.
And then as you pour the boiling water into your mug,
Notice the slow color transformation.
Notice the changing.
Simply watching and noticing.
And then if you need to add milk or sugar,
Notice that too,
Notice the changes in the color.
And feel the sensation of the teaspoon on your fingers.
Mindfully noticing the swirls in the cup as you stir your cup of tea or coffee.
Mindfully placing the teaspoon down.
And notice the sensation in the palms of your hands and your fingers.
Notice the warmth and the connection between your hands and the mug.
Bringing this cup to your nose.
Taking a nice deep breath in,
Breathing in the smell.
Noticing the warmth.
Noticing your presence.
You would need to be nowhere else except right here,
Right now.
As you bring your mug to your lips,
Notice the sensation on your lips.
And as you drink your tea,
Taking your sip,
Notice the warmth and the taste on your tongue,
The sensation in your mouth.
If you'd like,
You can even close your eyes at this moment.
Allowing your senses to notice without attachment,
Without judgment.
Pure,
Simple,
Present moment awareness.
As you swallow your cup of tea or coffee,
Notice it sliding down your throat.
Notice the warmth.
Notice the flow in your body.
And as you repeat this process with every sip,
Be grateful for being in the present moment,
Simply drinking your lovely cup of tea or coffee before you start your day.
