The Beach,
A pre-sleep relaxation meditation.
This is a gentle pre-sleep meditation that will help you gradually wind down before you settle to sleep.
Sleep is very important as it allows our bodies to heal and our minds to sort through any problems.
We can also create our futures in this sleep state.
The creative brain can activate without the distractions of the day.
You may have heard of people who prepare for exams by reading before bed and then placing the book beside them.
This is a similar method as the brain absorbs the knowledge more easily in a relaxed state.
Just prepare for sleep,
Lay down and find a small spot to gaze at,
Somewhere in front of you or above you.
It can be anything or nothing,
Just a point in the air.
Focus on this spot.
With every number I now count,
I am going to ask you to blink your eyes.
We will begin with the number 10.
Now,
10,
Blink your eyes.
9,
Blink.
8,
Blink.
7,
Blink.
6,
Blink.
5,
Blink.
4,
Blink.
3,
Blink.
2,
Blink.
1,
Blink.
And 0,
Blink.
Your eyes are ready to gently close so just allow them to and just breathe normally.
Now,
Imagine that in front of you there is a set of stairs going down.
They have white painted handrails,
A nice stair carpet.
They are stairs you might see in any house.
These stairs lead you to the knowledge of restful and rejuvenating sleep.
When I begin to count down from 10,
You will start to walk down these stairs,
Feeling more and more relaxed with each step you take.
10,
Begin your journey into sleep.
9,
8,
These are easy steps,
Quite shallow,
Quite wide.
7,
Feel your foot sink a little into the stair carpet.
6,
As you continue down,
You feel very calm.
5,
4,
Your mind is becoming more relaxed.
3,
2,
1.
You step off onto white sand.
It is warm under your feet.
Just feel the sensations you have in your feet on the sand.
You can hear the sound of the ocean,
But as you look ahead,
You can only see the gleaming sand,
White as sugar.
You think the sea must be over that little rise ahead and walk toward it.
The sun is on your skin,
But its touch is gentle.
There is a light breeze running in from the ocean,
And the air smells of salt and sun-warmed sand.
As you come to the little rise,
You see the ocean spread before you.
There is a lovely half-moon shaped bay on your left.
The land rises to low cliffs.
The sea glimmers,
Shot with green and deepest blue like a jewel.
A gentle surf breaks in ripples of white foam on the sand.
You walk across the sand toward the ocean.
The sand is firmer now.
The tide is going out,
Leaving little pieces of sea debris,
Shells,
Seaweed,
A smooth piece of water worn driftward,
Its end slightly pointed.
Now,
Pick up this driftwood and write your name in the hard,
Damp sand.
Slowly write out each letter.
Notice the sound it makes,
The way the waves move,
The way the sand curls back from the lines and curves.
Now,
Step back and look at your name.
It is a wonderful name.
Take a moment to really consider its beauty.
Shape the sounds in your mind.
This name,
Belonging to you,
Deserves all that is good.
Now,
Write one word under your name.
It may be happiness or peace.
Or health.
It may be luck or wealth.
Anything you choose.
Look at your name and the word beneath it,
Allowing it to sink into your mind.
Now,
Go for a walk along the beach.
Think of the things you see,
The sounds you hear.
Seabirds are flying overhead,
Far up,
White waves,
Far up,
White-winged against the blue sky.
The long breeze from the sea is salt-scented.
Far out,
You see the white sails of a beautiful yacht skimming along.
There is a little track that leads up to the shoreline.
Following it,
You see that a recliner and table are set under the shelter of the trees.
There is a cool drink,
Condensation misting the sides of the glass,
And a bowl of fresh food.
You sit down and take a sip of the drink and a bite of the food,
Looking down toward the ocean and the horizon where the colours of the sea and the sky merge.
The sound of the sea and the breeze is so peaceful that you lay back on the recliner and close your eyes,
Just being at one with the serenity.
Remember that you deserve all this peace.
Do not let your mind push you around or keep you from rest or joy.
When you find an unwanted thought arising in your mind,
Say stop.
Imagine putting your hand up to bar its way.
The stop is final.
Your mind can be trained and you can teach it your boundaries.
You absolutely deserve to have boundaries.
Unwelcome thoughts are like people that you do not want to entertain in your life.
So say enough.
However,
When lovely,
Relaxing,
Joyful thoughts come into your mind,
You can welcome them and step into its beauty as if it is a dream.
You may think of one now,
Something that you want or need,
Something that will bring joy and peace into your life.
Think of your name written on the beach,
Your name written on the sand and that word beneath it.
Let yourself rest within the inner glow of this dream.
Now,
Just listen to the waves as they break gently on the sand and drift,
Just drift into sleep.
Www.
Mooji.
