This meditation is for anyone longing to feel the presence of a loved one who has passed.

It's an opportunity to remember,

To bask in a love that may be hard to feel now that the person's physical presence is no longer with you.

It's an invitation to relax for a few minutes into that love.

To re-experience it,

To remember it,

To be grateful for it.

So settle into a comfortable position with your body relaxed and your mind alert.

And begin with two or three full,

Complete breaths,

Releasing any tensions,

Worries,

Or concerns.

You may begin by bringing your hand to your heart to acknowledge your own loss,

To soothe yourself and offer your heart comfort.

And now picturing yourself beside a very beautiful calm and gentle lake,

Shrouded in early morning fog,

Very beautiful and very serene.

And from the shore out across this lake extends a dock that dissolves into the fog.

Taking a step now onto the dock,

Feeling the gentle,

Safe movement of the dock floating on the water and hearing your footsteps as you proceed,

Hearing water gently lapping,

Seeing the beautiful fog drift across the lake.

And very calmly and peacefully walking out across this dock,

Feeling the gentle breeze,

Smelling the fresh air,

Seeing the mist move on the water,

Hearing the creak of the wood as you step,

The lapping of the water,

Feeling the cool,

Refreshing fog on your skin.

Continuing along,

Just noticing the beauty,

The expansiveness,

The serenity of this place.

And then coming to the end of the dock to open water and sitting down where the dock meets the water,

Hearing the gentle lapping of the water against the dock and then seeing a short distance away that another dock,

Another boardwalk begins and then you cannot see it through the fog,

You know that it spans across to the other side of the lake,

The opposite shore.

And feeling the safety,

The immense peace of this place,

Inwardly call upon your loved one,

Calling them from the other side of the shore to sit with you for a few minutes.

And then through the fog,

Hearing their footsteps,

Seeing their shape emerge,

Seeing their expression,

Their smile,

And watching them as they sit on the opposite dock across from you with water between you,

Close enough to take each other in to see each other's expressions,

But too far to reach across the water to touch.

Just taking a moment to notice them,

Their eyes,

Their hands,

The way they look at you.

You might want to just enjoy their presence in silence or you may wish to ask a question.

They can hear you.

They might answer with words or a gesture or a facial expression or simply what they radiate from their being.

Whether they respond with words or silence or the beams of light coming from their heart,

Simply bask in this time with them.

See how the breeze that moves through them,

Touching their skin and their clothes,

Travels across the water and touches you,

The same breeze.

Tell them anything you wish to tell them.

Anything you may have wished that you said in life or anything you want to say now or simply be there with your open heart.

And see how they receive your words,

Your presence with love.

Thanking them for all they gave you in life.

Thanking them for this moment now.

And wishing them well on their journey.

Wishing them every blessing your heart wants to offer them.

You're knowing now that you must each return to your own shore,

Rising,

Offering them a gesture,

A bow,

A wave,

A blown kiss.

And seeing them turn to go.

They're formed dissolving back into the fog and turning to travel back across the dock,

Feeling the gentle movement of the dock on the water,

The lapping of the water against the wood,

Moving back towards land as the fog begins to lift and the sun begins to shine warm on your skin,

Bathing you with warmth and consolation,

Bathing you with love.

Stepping back onto the shore,

Knowing you can return to this place anytime you wish to remember that source of love in your life.

Excellent!! I have a very special person in my life I took care of everyday for the whole first year of my sobriety. She was slowly dying of liver failure, but had 28 years sober and her husband who hugged me to care for her had 40 years sober. He traveled all over the world and I learned more from them than anyone in my life. Linda passed away just a few days after I turned 1 year sober. I started working for their family when I was only 30 days sober. I was so frightened because I didn’t even know how to care for myself. I did my very best to make her comfortable, love her and spend time with her and give her the compassion she deserved. I practically lived at their house. They were my spiritual guides. The had a meditation room in their house, and her husband taught me how to meditate. She taught me how to pray. We held hands and prayed together all the time. I still keep in touch with her family, her husband, her daughter and her mother. I believe that even though she has passed, she is still with me and watches over me. Very strangely I recently posted a very vulnerable topic about having a child enter my life who I care about so deeply. He is raising money for his high school football team. Very surprising to me, both Linda’s mother and daughter donated to the charity and wrote a very kind message to me. This was so surprising, I can only think that Linda’s spirit prompted this to happen. I have always felt a connection with her since she passed, but your meditation brought her face to face with me, and I could feel her spirit smiling. Thank you.

I am so grateful for this beautiful meditation and the opportunity to connect with my dad. We grew up on a lake and your guidance took me back to that special place. Thank you!

Thank you so much for this way to connect with a loved one who has passed, it had a powerful impact on me, I cried through most of it, I plan to do it on a regular basis, hopefully with less crying…Namaste 🙏🏻
