Let's see what a sense of settling might be like right now.
We can notice if there's an inclination to wind down.
And if there is,
We can simply let it unfold.
For these next few minutes.
We don't need to manage anything.
The body can find its own way of resting.
Whether that's sitting,
Leaning back.
Or lying down.
We can let it settle in whatever way it wants to.
The eyes may close or stay open.
Whichever feels right.
And around the eyes a little softening might happen.
Perhaps the forehead softens too.
The jaw,
And the shoulders.
The body already knows how to do this.
Today we are exploring the impulse to interfere.
It can be easier.
To notice the bigger efforts.
But what about the small ones?
The subtle reflexes to adjust something before it's finished.
It could be a thought that gets stared back.
A feeling that's smoothed over.
Or a posture that's corrected before it even had a chance to settle.
We're not trying to stop this.
We're just noticing.
That it happens.
Perhaps a thought appears.
And there's a small pull to change its direction.
And lead it somewhere else.
Or a feeling arises.
And there's an urge to soften it.
Or to change its shape.
Before it's had its say.
Or a sensation appears.
A tightness or a small discomfort.
And there's an impulse to fix it right away.
If any of this is here.
We don't need to stop it.
We're only noticing the hand that wants to adjust.
What's already unfolding.
We might notice what happens.
In the noticing itself.
Sometimes the wanting to change things.
Easy as a little.
Just from being seen.
Other times,
Everything stays the same.
That's fine too.
There's nothing here that we have to get right.
A sound might pass through without needing our help.
A breath might come and go.
In its own time.
Perhaps a little more of our experience can move like this.
Unassisted.
Unmanaged.
Simply allowed to be as it is.
We might then wonder.
What happens?
Where nothing needs correcting.
For a little while,
We can simply notice.
Whatever is here.
Perhaps even the hand that usually steps in.
And now we can let awareness widen again.
We can notice any sounds around us.
The body resting on whatever supports it.
The space around all of this.
It's all simply here.
Just as it is.
When it feels right.
The fingers or the toes might move a little.
A deeper breath may happen without being asked for.
And when the eyes are ready.
They can open and take in what's around.
As we continue with the rest of the day.
Perhaps we can remember.
Not everything.
Needs our hand in it.
Some things are already unfolding.
In their own time.
And we can meet that.
In a gentler way.
