Let's rest here for a little while.
For these next few minutes,
There's nowhere we need to get to.
Nothing we need to achieve.
Instead,
We can feel into the body.
And sense.
How it would like to be.
Sitting reclining.
Or lying down.
We can allow the body to settle in its own way.
If the eyes would like to close,
They can close.
If they'd rather remain open.
That's fine too.
Either way.
The gaze,
As well as the muscles around the eyes,
May soften a little.
Perhaps the forehead softens too.
And the jaw.
The neck.
The shoulders.
This softening can take place gradually.
In its own time.
Often when we pay attention.
They can be a subtle leaning forward.
A sense of trying to stay with experience.
To focus.
To notice correctly.
And if that effort is here We don't need to get rid of it.
We can simply notice.
That it's happening.
And as we notice we might also notice that attention is already moving on its own.
A sound arises.
A sensation appears.
A thought drifts through.
Attention moves toward one thing.
Within another.
Without us needing to direct it.
And perhaps something else can be noticed alongside this movement.
There is something that notices sensations.
Thoughts.
Emotions all of it.
Without itself.
Needing to move.
There's a quiet background in which experience comes and goes.
What might it be like?
To allow ourselves to sit back.
Rather than lean forward into experience.
We don't need to push anything away.
Emotions can come and go.
Thoughts can come and go.
Images can come and go.
And this quiet background has room for it all.
Perhaps.
There can be a slight sense of stepping back.
Not away from experience but into something wider.
That is already here.
Attention can freely move.
And.
.
.
At the same time.
There might be an openness.
A quietness.
Stillness.
Already present.
We're not trying to do anything special here.
We're simply noticing.
That something here remains present all along.
And we might gently wander.
What is it like?
To lean back.
To rest.
In this wider noticing.
For a little while longer.
We can simply rest here.
Experience moving a wider background,
Still here.
And now we can begin to sense the surroundings.
A little more clearly.
The sounds around us.
The feeling of the body being supported.
The space in the room.
We are in no hurry.
When it feels right.
The fingers or the toes might move a little.
And if the eyes have been closed they can open in their own time.
And take in what's around.
As we continue with the rest of the day.
Perhaps we can remember.
Sometimes awareness can simply remain quietly in the background.
And from here.
We can continue.
In a gentler way.
