Let's allow things to soften a little.
Whatever has been asking to be figured out or carried.
Can rest in the background.
For now.
For these next few moments.
We're simply here.
The body can settle.
In whatever way feels most comfortable.
Sitting.
Leaning back in a chair.
Or lying down.
We can notice how the body settles in its own way.
The eyes can be open or closed.
If they are open,
The eyelids may soften.
And the gaze may rest gently.
On what's in front.
If the eyes are closed There may be a little easing in the muscles around them.
Perhaps this easing can spread to the forehead too.
And the jaw.
The neck.
The shoulders.
And the rest of the body.
We're taking a few moments here.
To allow a little more room for settling.
Often.
Alongside with what's happening in the here and now.
There can be expectations.
About how things should be.
A sense that this moment should feel or Be different.
That the sounds around us should be quieter.
That something in the environment should change.
That this moment should be a little more settled.
Call.
A little less busy.
And if that sense is here,
We don't need to push it away.
We don't need to try to change.
Any of that.
We can simply notice.
That this idea of how things should be is also part of what's here.
There may also be a sense of how we should be.
How we should be thinking.
How we should be feeling.
How we should be responding to this moment.
That the mind should be quieter.
That the body should be more relaxed.
That we should be calmer than we are.
Or more able to let things go.
And if any of that is here.
That too can be noticed.
As part of what's present.
Sometimes.
There can even be an expectation.
That we shouldn't have expectations.
That we should already know.
How to be with things just as they are.
How to let go.
How to allow.
And if that's here.
That,
Too,
Can be as it is.
For a little while.
We can rest with things as they are.
This may not be the perfect moment.
But it is the moment that is here.
And we might gently wander.
What might it be like?
If an expectation.
We're to soften a little around the edges.
And nothing needed to match it.
And now.
We can begin to widen awareness again.
Noticing the sounds around us.
The sense of space in the room.
The way the body is resting.
Or being supported.
We can take our time.
When it feels right.
The fingers or the toes might move a little.
Maybe the shoulders shift slightly.
And if the eyes have been closed they can open slowly.
As we continue.
With the rest of the day.
Perhaps this small possibility.
Can remain with us.
That expectations can soften a little.
And maybe this moment.
Can simply be.
As it is.
And from here,
We can continue in a gentler way.
