This guided meditation uses a technique called "Paired Muscle Relaxation". We tighten the muscles of the body (moving through the muscle groups) and with each release, we say "I am safe." Daily repetition of this practice, will cue your body to relax whenever you tell yourself that you are safe. This is a research-based practice commonly used in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy as a strategy for managing emotions in a crisis. Training your body to relax when cued with the words "I am safe" can be effective in combating anxiety and panic. It does take daily practice to develop that response. You can also turn to this meditation whenever you need to relax and feel safe.
