Built a wall to keep the world out, and now it feels more like a prison? This guided loving-kindness meditation is for healthy boundaries: the kind that keep you safe without shutting the world out. Imagine a wall all the way round you, keeping out everything that stings. At first it feels wonderful. Then the strange thing: inside the wall our own strength goes soft, like a leg in plaster. And one day we need people again, and the world never read our rules. So we try a garden with a gate instead, and tend what grows inside it. A little wisdom, a little strength, and a little kindness for ourselves and for everyone at the gate. Three wishes to finish, each said twice with a hand on your heart. May I be safe with my gate open. May I be loved just as I am. May I be strong enough to let the world in. Soft music underneath. Sitting or lying down, both fine. Good before you go out into people, or after a day full of them.
