Hello,
Welcome to a three-minute Common Humanity,
Just Like Me meditation.
Take a few stabilizing breaths deep so that it calms your nervous system.
And bring to mind somebody who you love.
Once you bring this person to mind,
Start to see how they are similar to you.
Just like you,
They want to be happy.
Just like you,
They want to avoid pain in their own lives.
Just like you,
They have difficulties.
And just like you,
They do suffer.
Really take this opportunity to see the person who you love deeply more objectively from a place of understanding that they have their positive qualities and they have their flaws.
They have their happy moments and they have their sad moments.
If we truly hope to connect with people,
We must remove them from a pedestal that we might have placed them on in our own minds.
Just like you,
They have their moments of happiness.
Just like you,
They have their moments of anger and sadness.
Because of this,
They are worthy of,
And quite possibly in need of,
Our compassion,
Of our dedication to seeing them happy,
Free from suffering.
Make a promise and set the intention that next time you interact with this person,
Know that they have their own hardships that they're going through,
That your smiling face or your supportive words can really mean a lot to them in any given moment.
Thank you.
I'll see you on our next meditation.
