Today, more than ever, we need rest. Many of us are caught on a hamster wheel of constant motion. We’ve learned to rest only so we can get back to doing, but we are not human doings — we are human beings. Real rest gives us permission to pause and return to the simple practice of being. I invite you to experience rest.

Welcome beautiful soul.

Thank you for gifting yourself this time.

My name is Shalita and this is a gentle invitation to allow yourself to come home to rest.

This meditation is intended to be experienced lying on your back but feel free to find any position that is comfortable and accessible to you.

First whatever thoughts may be calling for your attention,

Family demands,

An unfinished to-do list.

Imagine gathering them all up and placing them in a box.

Now close the lid and visualize picking up the box and placing it outside of your space.

You have just given yourself permission to fully receive rest.

Now let's settle in.

Gently close your eyes or soften your gaze,

Whatever feels comfortable for you.

Allow your arms to rest by your side or if you'd like place one hand on the middle of your chest in your heart center and the other on your belly.

Begin to notice your breath.

Don't try to change it,

Just notice it.

Breathing in,

Belly rises.

Breathing out,

Belly falls.

Like waves meeting the shore,

Arriving,

Receding and returning again.

Just you and your breath.

Now imagine a soft warm glow of light in the center of your chest.

That light wraps around your entire body like a blanket.

Soft,

Cozy and soothing.

Feel yourself begin to soften in its embrace.

Your eyelids,

Your jaw,

Your shoulders,

Your fingers,

Tension melting away,

Your body welcoming rest,

Your mind welcoming peace.

Rest gently quiets the body's stress response,

Allowing the body to repair and the mind to be at ease.

Restful practices are how we disconnect from the noise and return to what feels true and steady within.

Rest is always available to you.

You do not need to earn it.

It lives in your breath and you can return whenever you need.

Until then,

Be well,

Beautiful soul.
