Forgive but never forget,
Said a wise voice.
I've learned to see betrayal,
Lies,
And deceiving actions,
Deliberate or not,
As a reflection of the inner world of the other.
Resentment can transform into bitterness and nihilism.
A drop of poison can darken your being.
Forgiveness and empathy avert you in this day and age.
I do not see forgiveness as a noble act towards the one holding the sword,
But a necessity for one to re-establish serenity of mind.
Forgiveness may be seen as weak in this modern world,
But an invisible fortitude is gained and in the process the heart expands.
Forgive but never forget,
Never forget who you are is the fundamental lesson.
An enemy can only win if you allow them to alter the direction of your heart.
An enemy ceases to exist when you realize it is always your choice to forgive.
