Take a deep breath and let it go.

You are here now and you are being held.

Tonight God's word will watch over you as you rest.

So if you've come to this meditation carrying any heaviness or feeling the weight of depression or even struggling to find hope,

Know that you're not alone.

The psalmists knew these steps too and they left us words that still comfort thousands of years later.

Let these ancient prayers wash over you.

You don't need to do anything.

Just breathe and receive.

Psalms 42.

Why my soul are you downcast?

Why so disturbed within me?

Put your hope in God,

For I will yet praise Him,

My Savior and my God.

By day the Lord directs His love,

At night His song is with me,

A prayer to the God of my life.

Why my soul are you downcast?

Why so disturbed within me?

Put your hope in God,

For I will yet praise Him,

My Savior and my God.

Even in your turmoil,

God directs His love towards you.

By day and by night,

His song is with you right now.

Psalms 34.

The righteous cry out and the Lord hears them.

He delivers them from all their troubles.

The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.

God is close to you tonight,

Especially close.

The brokenhearted are not abandoned.

They are attended to by the Most High,

Your crushed spirit.

He sees it.

He comes close to it.

He saves.

The Lord is my shepherd,

I lack nothing.

He makes me lie down in green pastures.

He leads me beside quiet waters.

He refreshes my soul.

He guides me along the right paths for His namesake.

Even though I walk through the darkest valley,

I will fear no evil,

For you are with me.

Your rod and your staff,

They comfort me.

You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies.

You anoint my head with oil.

My cup overflows.

Surely,

Your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life,

And I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

You are being led to quiet waters right now.

Let Him refresh your soul as you rest.

Even in the darkest valley,

You are not alone.

He is with you.

Psalms 46 God is my refuge and strength,

And ever-present help in trouble.

Therefore,

We will not fear,

Though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea.

Though its waters roar in foam and the mountains quake with their surging,

Be still and know that I am God.

I will be exalted among the nations.

I will be exalted in the earth.

The Lord Almighty is with us.

The God of Jacob is our fortress.

Be still and know.

You don't have to figure it out tonight.

You don't have to fix it tonight.

Just be and know that He is God.

He is your refuge,

Your ever-present help,

Right here,

Right now.

Psalms 139 You have searched me,

Lord,

And you know me.

You know when I sit and when I rise.

You perceive my thoughts from afar.

You discern my going and my lying down.

You are familiar with all my ways.

Before a word is on my tongue,

You,

Lord,

Know it completely.

You hem me in behind and before,

And you lay your hand upon me.

Such knowledge is too wonderful for me,

Too lofty for me to attain.

Where can I go from your Spirit?

Where can I flee from your presence?

If I go up to the heavens,

You are there.

If I make my bed in the depths,

You are there.

If I rise on the wings of the dawn,

If I settle on the far side of the sea,

Even there your hand will guide me.

Your right hand will hold me fast.

If I say,

Surely the darkness will hide me and the light become night around me.

Even the darkness will not be dark to you.

The light will shine like the day,

For darkness is as light to you.

How precious to me are your thoughts,

God.

How vast is the sum of them.

Were I to count them,

They would outnumber the grains of sand.

When I awake,

I am still with you.

God knows every thought you've had today,

Every feeling,

Every moment of despair,

And he has not turned away.

You are hemmed in,

Held,

And loved by God.

Even this darkness is not dark to him,

And when you wake,

You will still be with him.

For his anger lasts only a moment,

But his favor lasts a lifetime.

Weeping may stay for the night,

But rejoicing comes in the morning.

You turn my wailing into dancing.

You removed my sackcloth and clothed me with joy that my heart may sing your praises and not be silent.

Lord,

My God,

I will praise you forever.

This night of weeping,

It will not last forever.

Rejoicing is coming.

Mourning is coming.

And God will turn your wailing into something beautiful again.

Psalm 62 Yes,

My soul,

Find rest in God.

My hope comes from him.

Truly he is my rock and my salvation.

He is my fortress.

I will not be shaken.

My salvation and my honor depend on God.

He is my mighty rock,

My refuge.

Trust in him at all times,

You people.

Pour out your hearts to him,

For God is our refuge.

Find rest in God tonight.

Your hope,

It comes from him.

Pour out your heart.

He can handle all of it.

Every fear.

Every doubt.

Every tear.

He is your refuge.

Psalms 147 He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.

He determines the number of stars and calls them each by name.

Great is our Lord and mighty in power.

His understanding has no limit.

The Lord sustains the humble but casts the wicked to the ground.

The same God who names the stars knows your name.

The same God who holds galaxies holds your broken heart.

And he heals.

He binds up wounds.

He is sustaining you even now.

Psalms 91 Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.

I will say of the Lord,

He is my refuge and my fortress.

My God in whom I trust.

He will cover you with his feathers.

And under his wings you will find refuge.

His faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.

You will not fear the terror of night,

Nor the arrow that flies by day.

If you say the Lord is my refuge and you make the Most High your dwelling,

No harm will overtake you.

No disaster will come near your tent.

For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways.

Because he loves me,

Says the Lord,

I will rescue him.

I will protect him.

For he acknowledges my name.

He will call on me and I will answer him.

I will be with him in trouble.

I will deliver him and honor him.

With long life I will satisfy him and show him my salvation.

You are covered tonight.

Under his wings you find refuge.

You will not fear the terror of this night because he has commanded his angels concerning you.

When you call,

He answers.

In your trouble,

He is with you.

Psalms 121 I lift up my eyes to the mountain.

Where does my help come from?

My help comes from the Lord,

The Maker of heaven and earth.

He will not let my foot slip.

He who watches over you will not slumber.

Indeed,

He who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep.

The Lord watches over you.

The Lord is your shade at your right hand.

The sun will not harm you by day,

Nor the moon by night.

The Lord will keep you from all harm.

He will watch over your life.

The Lord will watch over your coming and going,

Both now and forevermore.

Your keeper does not sleep.

While you rest,

He watches.

While you surrender to sleep,

He remains awake,

Guarding your life.

You are kept from this time forward and forevermore.

Let these words settle deep in your spirit as you rest.

You are seen.

You are known.

You are loved.

And you are held by God.

And the God who spoke these promises thousands of years ago speaks them over you tonight.

Rest well,

Beloved.

You are safe.
