This poem came from a tense moment I had with my teenage son. I felt desperate to help him feel differently about the pain he was experiencing. But in a moment of grace, he left the room, and I had the chance to gather myself. I fell into a sense of quiet presence and then offered THAT to him when he walked back in, which turned everything around. When we try to solve someone's pain, we exhaust ourselves. But what if the deepest form of love is simply the willingness to be present.Without needing to fix anything? This poem explores a mother's journey from the impulse to help to the profound release of empty hands. Through an embodied reflection, we discover what presence actually offers when we stop trying to manage another's emotions. For anyone who experiences love as a 'disappearance '- parents, caregivers, teachers, and those living in codependent relationships.
