How do we fall in love with the unextraordinary? By remembering that it is already exquisite in its plainest form. We have been created at the perfect distance—not so close that there is nothing, not so far that there is nothing—to experience life as something quietly remarkable. This remembering alone can turn every meeting with the ordinary into a spiritual one. May we be willing to be touched by the smallest points of contact today—birdsong, an unexpected smile, a hand in ours—and let them guide us back home to who we really are: the loving, formless capacity through which all forms are known. Have a wonderful week, Sez

In all the ways I could be made and unmade by this day,

I ask only for one true thing,

To be skin level with the ordinary.

I want its contact,

The salt of my own palm meeting the cold rasp of cedar bark.

No performing of miracles where the sweetness of birch sap is enough.

Just the grit beneath the fingernail,

The quiet labour of pressing green onion bulbs into their dark beds,

The solid weight of the wet trowel.

Can you hear him now,

The black bird,

Dark stitch in the grey sky,

Balanced on the swelling bud of pine,

His throat a brief pink warmth against the stiff sheets of ice?

He knows there are instructions for living left on the wind,

Written in the liturgy of Hawthorne,

How it splits into white blossoms,

Only to fill itself with the bitter black seed of its own survival.

If I am to be touched,

Let it be by the unremarkable courage to continue,

A simple breath taken without a taker,

The unmistakable miracle of the body held in perfect focus,

Not too close that there is nothing,

Not too far that there is nothing,

But this exact distance,

Where emptiness appears as a life that can be felt and known and loved.
