Thank you for joining me for this patience and trust meditation.
I don't know if you find patience a skill you need to practice but I definitely do.
So find a comfortable seat or lie down.
Let your body be supported by the ground beneath you.
Gently close your eyes if it's safe to do so or soften your gaze.
Let's take a slow breath in through the nose and a long easy breath out through the mouth.
Let the shoulders relax back and down.
Allow the breath to return to its natural rhythm.
Now bring your attention to the places where your body meets support.
The floor,
The chair,
The earth.
Notice how you don't have to hold yourself up.
You're already being held.
As you breathe become aware of any effort to manage,
Plan or fix.
Without judging it,
Simply notice.
On your next exhale imagine gently loosening your grip on having to manage,
Plan or fix.
Not giving up,
Just softening around it as you breathe.
Patience doesn't mean waiting for life to start or things to happen that you want.
It means trusting that life is already moving in the direction you want,
Even when you can't see the step.
So bringing your attention inward to the quiet space beneath thoughts and expectations.
Just breathing in and out,
Feeling the space,
This quiet space.
This space,
It doesn't rush.
This space doesn't need proof.
With each breath out silently repeat,
I don't need to control this moment.
And again,
I don't need to control this moment.
And again,
I don't need to control this moment.
Now with the breath in,
Silently repeat,
I trust the pace of my life.
I trust the pace of my life.
I trust the pace of my life.
If the mind wanders,
Gently return to the breath and repeat with kindness,
As you inhale,
I trust the pace of my life.
And as you exhale,
I don't need to control this moment.
Just do a few rounds of that as you breathe softly,
Softly out.
Notice what becomes available when you stop pushing time forward.
Rest here for a few more breaths,
Allowing patience to feel like ease.
Giving yourself permission to be exactly where you are.
When you're ready,
Begin to deepen your breath,
Gently wiggling your fingers and toes,
Carrying the sense of trust with you,
Knowing that patience is already within you,
Waiting to be remembered.
And as you gently open your eyes,
Know that you do have time.
Until the next time,
Take care.
