After twenty years of meditation and about as much time on the spiritual path, I became desperate enough to pray for peace and love above all things. It was precisely then that I was guided to hold vigil over the spiritual heart, on the right side of the chest - what Ramana Maharshi called the 'seat of consciousness.' The heart is indeed our eternal throne, but it is also a portal into a radically new way of being in the world. It will never be through the mind, but only ever through the heart that our true nature as sat-chit-ananda or being-consciousness-bliss can be known.
