Sound Bath Sessions 317: Clarice Wong
Clarice wanted to tell a story with her session, creating a world where the listener can dream and get lost in. I love this session because it was so theatrical, using simple elements of foley to create a dreamlike world. It was like watching an old radio drama being performed. She begins with a short script to guide you into her world, painting a blurry picture for you to make clearer. The evening prayer singing from the nearby mosque joined her, making it even more dreamlike. She begins with a deep bass of the shamanic drum and chanting while Se-yuen crumpled a piece of cellophane to mimic a crackling fire. Moving to the gong, slow washes fill the room. A rain cloud passes as frogs croak in its wake and an owl hoots while the wind blows on the knocking of the forest. Slow drones from the metal bowls keep us wandering in the forest until we hear the chimes and slowly rise to meet her voice to guide us out.
