Sound Bath Sessions 075: Haruka Hikita
It was cool at 8am in Singapore, with barely any traffic getting to the north end of Serangoon Road. Haruka said to meet her at the back entrance of the space. I passed by it at first, mistaking it for a storage room until she poked her head from atop a spiral staircase to welcome me up. The space was dark with a small strip of curtained clerestory windows, textured stucco walls, a metal roof, and uneven wood floorboards. It had an early morning mood, still sleepy. She sometimes holds her sessions here. For this session, she opens with an ocean drum, chanting just as it starts to rain. Gentle morning raindrops on the steel roof match the cracking of the structure as it starts to wake. The space is alive, moving. This session feels nostalgic, like a soundtrack to past memories, solemn and thankful.
