Find a position where your body can be fully supported.
It doesn't need to hold itself up right now.
Let your eyes close or soften your gaze downward.
Take one breath,
However it wants to come.
And notice,
Without changing anything yet,
What's here.
Maybe there's a tightness in the chest.
Maybe the jaw is holding something.
Maybe the shoulders are up near the ears without you ever deciding to put them there.
This is just information,
Your body keeping a log of everything it's carried today,
This week,
Longer.
You don't have to fix it.
You just have to notice it's there.
We're going to work directly with the nerve that runs from the base of your brain down through your throat past your heart into your gut.
The vagus nerve.
It's the wiring behind your sense of safety.
And the fastest way to speak its language is through the breath and through the voice.
Breathe in through the nose for a count of four.
One,
Two,
Three,
Four.
Hold gently at the top for once.
And release slowly through the mouth for a count of 6-6-5-4-3-2-1 Longer exhale than inhale.
That's the signal.
That's what tells the body.
The danger has passed.
Even if the day hasn't finished yet.
Let's do that two more times at your own pace in through the nose and a long,
Slow release out.
Now,
If you're somewhere you can make a small sound,
Let's try something else.
On your next exhale,
Hum.
Low.
Easy.
Whatever pitch comes naturally.
Not a performance.
Just a vibration.
Feel that hum in your throat,
Maybe your chest,
That vibration runs along the same nerve we're working with.
It's one of the most direct ways to tell your body from the outside in that it's safe to stand down.
If it's available to you,
Let your head turn slowly to the right,
Following your eyes first,
Then the head.
And slowly back to center.
And to the left.
And back to center.
That's not just a stretch,
That small movement helps the nervous system reorient.
It confirms there's nothing here that needs your vigilance right now.
Notice what's different,
Even slightly,
From when we started.
Maybe the breath is a little looser.
Maybe the shoulders dropped half an inch you didn't plan for.
Whatever you're noticing,
However small,
Let it register.
Not because it needs to be dramatic to count.
It counts because it's real and because your body is learning something right now,
That this state,
Settled breathing,
No longer bracing,
Is available to you.
Not just in theory.
In your actual body.
Right now.
Take a moment to let that land.
This is a place you can return to.
Not somewhere far away,
Somewhere your body already knows how to find because it just found it.
When you're ready,
No rush,
Let your breath return to its natural rhythm.
Begin to notice the room around you again.
The temperature.
The sounds nearby.
And when it feels right,
Let your eyes open.
Whatever's next for you today,
You get to carry this with you,
Not as something you have to maintain perfectly.
Just as something you now know.
How to come back to.
