Thank you so much for joining me for today's short practice.
In this practice we are going to be connecting with our five senses and this is going to help us come into the present moment to ground ourselves and also just to allow everything to slow down to notice.
So let's begin.
Take a moment now to arrive to this practice.
Come into a comfortable yet easy to hold position.
Perhaps you are lying down or you're staying seated.
Either way the spine is nice and long.
The chin gently tucked towards your chest,
Shoulders softening down the back and gently closing over the eyes.
Take a moment to land in your body.
To arrive,
Allowing the mind to catch up with your physical body and acknowledging that you have carved out this time to look after yourself and that isn't always the easiest thing to do.
We'll begin by noticing each of our different senses.
Starting with our sense of touch,
Our sense of feeling.
What can you notice?
Perhaps the seat or the ground beneath your body,
Your clothes or hair against your skin,
The temperature of the room around you.
Taking some time now to notice what you're able to feel in your body.
Now moving on to our sense of smell.
So perhaps you're indoors or outdoors.
Is there a scent to the room or the space that you're in?
Perhaps you're in a room or you're outside.
Perhaps your perfume or is there a scent from your washing detergent?
Smell of outdoors,
A candle burning.
Take a moment now to notice all of the different smells that you can smell.
And now we move to our sense of sound.
What can you hear?
What sounds are closest?
Gradually beginning to make your way out to those sounds a little bit further in the distance.
The sounds within the room,
Within the wider space of your home.
Is there music or bird song or traffic outside?
Taking a moment now to tune in with your sense of sound.
We continue now to our fourth sense,
Our sense of sight.
Even with your eyelids closed,
Is there any shapes or colors that you can see?
Any visualizations?
And if you prefer,
Feel free to gently open the eyes and notice the space that you're in.
What draws your attention?
What can you see?
Taking a moment now to notice all of the different shapes,
Colors,
Objects that you can see.
And if your eyes were opened,
Gently closing those back over as we connect with our final sense,
Our sense of taste.
This one can be a little trickier.
Taking a moment to perhaps move your tongue around your mouth.
Noticing if there's any lingering taste from food or drinks that you've maybe had before.
But don't worry too much if you're not able to notice anything too obvious here.
Either way,
Taking a time now to explore that sense of taste.
And now letting go of each of the five senses.
Beginning to deepen the breath,
Taking fuller,
Deeper breaths towards your belly.
Noticing the inhale and the exhale.
The wave-like motion as the breath moves through your body.
Filling your body with new,
Fresh energy.
As you slowly begin to create little movements through your body,
Moving slowly,
There's no rush.
Perhaps circling your wrists and ankles,
Wiggling your fingers and toes,
Or any other stretch or movement that might feel good.
And whenever you're ready,
Gently beginning to blink the eyes,
Noticing the space that you're in.
Thank you so much for joining me for this short practice.
I hope to see you again soon.
